Hey Guys,

Not sure if anyone has already posted about this or if it is mentioned in another thread but yes Microsoft is stopping support for Windows XP. We all know that XP has been a terrific operating system since it first released back in 2001!

Anyway PCLiveHelp has done a quick blog post about what you can do if you're still on XP.

So if you're interested in finding out more please visit: http://www.pclivehelp.co.uk/news/microsoft-stops-support-for-windows-xp-april-8th/

Thanks

Where's the mention of Linux? Or Android Tablets or even the Chromebook?

I didn't mention Linux for the reason that it's aimed more at the windows user. I think if they swapped over to Linux they would struggle.

Sorry i forgot to mention the Chromebook as it's defiantly a viable option but as for tablets i prefer apple just as it's so simple to operate.

Personally, I would never recommend Novatech.

Could i ask why?

I agree that linux and ubuntu etc aren't worth mentioning. They're really aimed at geeky users who don't wish to pay for Windows, but you need a reasonable level of skill to get your head around them and make things work - especially when it comes to installing printers and some other external devices.

I personally find that you stick to what you know. I'm a Windows user, always have been and always will be. I tried to convert a Mac user into a Windows one but failed and they went back to Mac. I also know Windows users who have purchased Mac's and ended up going back to Windows. You know what you know, you know? :)

In my experience they have very poor customer service when things go wrong and the automatic assumption they make is that you have done something wrong. Used to use them in the past, but no longer.

I voted for Windows 7, only because of the SSD that I have in my desk top pc, but I also keep a desk and laptop on XP, as some of my software dosen't work on 7 such as my Epson stylus 760 printer, I would proberly have stayed on XP but for SS Drives

That's a shame, back in the day when i first started computers i used their tech support quite often and always found it very helpful. I tend to use Novatech a lot now as it takes one call to my business manager, next day delivery and then if any problems they collect it next day too. I'm sure we all know how much a pain things can be to return so it's so much simpler to use them.

Who do you tend to use now?

I'm the 'Keep with XP' voter because, assuming I'm happy with my XP PC, all my applications are running fine and I'm not lusting after any application that requires a later OS to run on, then I'd need a better reason than XP going out of support to switch to another OS.

Totally agree, A lot of my customers have asked if they should upgrade or buy a new pc but if its working fine for them there is no reason to change. A lot of people still on XP will only be using it for the odd tasks anyway so XP will still work fine. Many of us upgraded years back as we used it for more things than what they did.
