I'm pretty certain it's a rebrand rather than new brewery etc. I'm sure Stonegate ran the Crafty Sow. I do wonder if it was a little bit of a testing the waters to see how viable the premises would be rather than have a 'Yates' closing down. But then I might just be talking nonesense

Yep, Stonegate ran the Crafty Sow & Yates is another one of their brands. Next it could be a Classic Inn, a Walkabout, a Proper Pub, a Town Pub & Kitchen, a Slug & Lettuce or a Common Room. Quite a few brands for Stonegate to work through yet.

Now closed, seems it's soon to be a Yates's, shame as the happy hour was most popular with myself when I had a chick on my arm....

Isn't this just a bit crazy? We had a Yates' in Stafford, which then became an Apres which then became a Lloyds No 1/Wetherspoon as Butler's Bell?

Went to Yates's last night, had popped out for the turkey from Tesco but as we were looking at a lengthy wait to get off the carpark, decided to go to The Picturehouse for food. As there were a lot of anoraks guarding tables of 4, we decided to go to Yates's. So service was still appalling, A single barman working who did not have a sense of urgency to him. That said I think it was worth the wait. I had a burger and my wife had steak and both, as far as pub grub goes in Stafford were as good as anywhere that I have tried. Certainly better than spoons, I know thats not a high benchmark, but pretty good food.

I went into Yates with my daughter a few weeks ago, we had fishbowl and jug cocktails - much cheaper than revolution - so we will be going there for all future cocktail outings. Went in Monday after coming back from Manchester german market - needed proper pub food after all of markets sausages and pies. They had no steak but they had gammon and I had ckn tikka masala. both meals were lovely. I was surprised that they had no steak but we did go in at about 8.45. The place had quite a few in, so that always contributes to the atmosphere in a pub. There were a group of young people playing pool and some middle-aged people watching sport and the place is big enough to find a corner spot if you want a nice quiet meal. I like it will def go again.

I have to say service can be hit and miss, but food is quite and so is atmosphere in the week.

Have always found Yates' bars to be the better end of the deep fat fryer and microwave sector. Never had any complaints at all, decent, cheap pub food.

I can remember when Yates's bars were dingy brown places where elderly ladies went to drink brown sherry
