For purely journalistic reasons I had a few in the new Rose & Crown last night, between 6 and 10.

The new lay-out is interesting, the bar being in the middle of the building, seperating the front bar/lounge from the larger area at the back with tables etc. It's a good idea, the regulars can stay cozy in their section whilst pub-crawlers and weekend drinkers can occupy the larger bit.
Mind you I think the step in the back bar is going to cause a few laughs especially towards the end of the night. I suggest a camera trained on that area. Can always sell the footage to one of those TV programs.

Well I must say I'm impressed, this has been made into the kind of pub you expect to find in a town of this age. When the new smell goes you'll never guess its been altered and renovated (if you'd hadn't been in it when it used to be a dive)

It would also appear that there is a strong signal to the free library wifi, but don't have a password to investigate if it works.

I heard last night that they will be having a connection to The Gatehouse PA system so that theatre goers can have a swifty in the intermission and be able to hear the "please return to your seats" type announcements.

That would be brilliant, a proper pint at half time and getting back on time (advisable with certain comedians).

Supped another few pints in there Thursday night. Excellent pints of ale, although still no sign of any guest ales so it's just the three Joules make. Nothing wrong with that, I'm just a drinker that likes to try different types of bitter whenever I'm out. Shame, since they have six hand-pulls.

Still, as I say the three they had on were excellent. The paint smell still prevails, but it was lovely and warm on a cold night. And the barmaid is exceptionally pretty, which really adds to any establishment.

I popped into Ye Olde Rose and Crown on Wednesday eves. The ales seem OK (Joules, I think) but there was still a strong smell of solvent and a lot of blonde wood everywhere. For me the jury is still out
You can't but notice it can you?

Beer good, though - ask for more can you?

If anyone knows the landlord can you tell him:
Cutting onions in half and leaving them in the offending areas helps get rid of paint smells, don't know why it works but it seems to draw the fumes in. I've used it on something painted strong colour once and the onion turned to colour of the paint.
They could bin onions at opening time & put fresh ones at closing this should hasten the demise of the fume smell.

I think thats the problem, no tobacco to smother the paint! Went in tonight, seems alright but something missing, not sure what. Severe lack of ciders, but then the P&A seem to have stopped selling any too and the Sun only had Westons Vintage, a bit worrying for an apple addict!

Went in last night. I thought the toilets were quite odd being upstairs out of the way and having only one sink. Also thought the step down to the bar is a bit of a piss artists hazard.

Other than that, very pleasant.

Not been in since opening night. Any atmos/music etc yet? I thought that was something that was missing, even if its low background.
