Well I'm not going to start filling up the boards with threads about elections or tell people how to vote if that's what you mean. I don't think there's any political motivation, but I suppose you'll just have to judge for yourself based on what I write...
The mere fact that you have a tendency to end your posts in this fashion....

may lead some to consider that you may be a 'babbling mentalist', but you have a long way to go yet.....

woah woah woah, hold your horses, young lady.. the only time i ever said that was in reference to basil, and it was very specifically regarding his nonsensical posts that i was having trouble making head nor tail of at the time lol.. i have never referred to you as such!

and the incident you are referring to with the ellipses was because you randomly began starting posts with them, for no apparent reason lol.. there was no babbling or mentalism involved :teef:

for the record, you'll notice i punctuate pretty much every sentence with a faux-ellipsis (i say "faux," because it's only two dots rather than three).. it's a bad habit i picked up longer ago than i can remember, but it's one i'm sticking with, dammit!

I realise that I was not accused of being a babbling mentalist ( indeed, who could ever make such a mistake? ), but I merely felt that I should point out the risk of becoming subconciously associated as a result of his style of posting.

But 'randomly'? I like to think that we worked very hard at maintaining the structure of that interchange.

basil

don't mention the blinds
The BMP (Babbling Mentalist Party) are standing on a platform oppisite to the BNP (Babbling Nationalist Party) and everything they stand for. In fact the only organisation we hate more are the MNP (Mentalist Nationalist Party)....Splitters !!.......

Is that the same as the Real Continuity Mentalist Party? Sometimes, apparently, they can be a little husky - or two, but they'll always get their man. It's all so confusing.

basil

don't mention the blinds
Also confused with the Babbling Mentalist Association, they tend to foster the political doctrine.....

Northern Ireland parties are expanding onto the mainland - the British Association of Sinn Feiners think that they've really got it taped....

'International Babbling Mentalists' led by the guruesque Big Blue process applications digitally.....

Just a thought here, but what actually happens if you spoil a ballot? Is the number of spoiled ballots recorded? If I draw a huge spunking cock on mine, rather than vote for somebody I don't want, who exactly will see it? Can I write 'sucks goats' next to someones name, or is it a pointless endeavour?

This is why we need a NOTA box, with a field for why. If nothing else, it will make counting them more fun.

Don't you think it's better than all those people who always end sentences with a question mark? I mean seriously? How many times do they need to use them? Are they on some sort of punctuation-related loyalty bonus?

If you deface yours it is added to the pile of spoilt or invalid ballot papers, the total number of which is read out with the other results. IMO it is not particularly productive!

Is it more productive than not turning up? If you want no party in that is actually representing your area?

Whatever you do, don't start your posts with an ellipsis. It is regarded as the Mark of Cain....

What happens is, if it is not pretty clear that a ballot is a vote for one candidate, or if the person casting the ballot can be identified in any way (which is why if you amend a ballot paper you should never initial it, btw), these ballots are put in a little tray. The returning officer (usually the Chief Exec of the Borough Council) periodically goes around each table and goes through each disputed ballot thinking about it, then shows the ballot to the candidates and tells us what his judgement is and why. Usually when the candidates see a ballot with a rant on they have a sort of "point and laugh at the village wierdo" moment*, before they go back to what they're there to do - keep their eyes on the people counting and make sure they don't make a mistake. When the results are announced the number of ballots "ruled as inadmissible" is included, but this doesn't mean that this entire figure is made up solely of ballots with spunking cocks on them.

*e.g. at my count for the Borough elections in 2007, we had a guy whose ballot was rejected because he had scribbled all over it about immigration. Fair enough, but in a borough with no coast or airport, what exactly are we Borough Councillors supposed to do about that?

interesting.. it's defo handy having you around here, mark.. stuff like this is good to know!

it's funny that you stumbled across this place basically because i made a post slagging your facebook page off, but now i'm really warming to you.. the fact you passed the "there/they're/their" test with flying colours in that last post in the space of 6 words was particularly impressive lol..

It is very easy for a politician to get into trouble when taken out of context! Just beware, there was some sort of journalist-type on here lately.

Quite right, the local press monitor these forums and although I found the post amusing (especially coming from someone I would expect to be stuck up their own arse) the press can twist things easily...

BEWARE!!!!

whilst i agree with what you're saying, i hope mark doesn't reign it in too much.. it's nice to know that he's as puerile as the rest of us (and when i say "the rest of us" i obviously mean "me" lol) and can indulge in inane pub banter :D

RobertF1982 would appear to be from the Fourth Estate. And, of course, the more anonymous ones can just peruse it as visitors.

I also hope that things are not too sanitized, but I just felt that the point should be made as one or two Forumites seem to have had some difficulties as a result.
