OK, I finally did it, I went, despite almost everybody I know telling me it was crap. Boy were they right! 5 quid to get in, 4 bar staff to cover both bars, sticky carpets, gents toilets falling down, what a flea pit. I left after about an hour, definately not the place to go if you are sober, you'd never get drunk with all the time spent waiting to get served. Music system is either old or cranked up, left with a bloody headache, can't hear a word anybody says to you. Loud music is fine with me but distorted is not.

I've been in some real dives over the years but this one has got to be the tops.

Will definately not return ever again.

Amazes me how people are prepared to pay good money for crap service.

Not a lot of choice in Stafford though..
My choice was to exit after two bottles of beer and go to the Grapes, very busy but got served immediately, I'd bet the guys I left in Z's were still waiting by the time I was on my 2nd pint!

The thing is, apart from a name change and a refurb once, the place hasn't really changed since I first went 11 years ago! I did enjoy the old coliseum, but this was probably because I was a wee underage drinker living it up! Hate the place now and would rather pass a turtle then go! If I wanted to spend the night with drunken kids I'd stand outside McDowells. I think I've been twice this millennium and it is a place I'd avoid at all costs!

I still call it the coliseum though (or the bag ;) ) , does anyone else still call it by an old name? My Mum and Dad still call it Top of the World!! And often tell me about the bands they saw there! Oh, and the Grasshopper suite!

I worked there for 6 years on and off through uni, hate the place! Did go in a few times this year, but always cos a woman made me. Amazing what you'll put yourself through sometimes ;)

Finished for the last time in 2000, just wasn't the same after the old manager (Tracy) left there.

I still miss the Reynolds Bar!!! Zanzibar is for kids but Reynolds Bar seemed to cater for everyone. Nothing now goes on me end of the town, so end up waiting ages for a taxi outside New York, New York, that alone is a dangerous game as see lots of arguments and near misses in the queue. Just can't wait 2 get home!

Oh, how we need a top nightspot for over 16s in this town... Has anyone read about the place that Ray Crowther is taking over the management of, owned by the one and only Paul Cope, who also own Kingdom Finance, sponsors of Stafford Rangers.

The guy who has the old Driving Test centre on the Wolverhampton road who regularly has Hummers/Lamborghini's/Rolls Royces/Big fat Mercs and Ferraris outside.

He's got a lot of money invested in various companies in and around Stafford.

oh the memory's that brought back, top of the grot we called it, grab a granny night on Wednesday, bouncers that actually threw you out, no jeans allowed, no trainers, girls that danced round their handbags, sex on a dark set of stairs at the side of the stage, doing the march of the mods that set the sprung floor bouncing, brilliant place in the 60's, so sad to see it dieing.

It will always be the Coliseum for me and Top of the World for my older sister. Alas, it seems it is doomed to never revisit the heady days of the sixties.

When and why did the ARC (Attic, Reynolds, Cellar) close? It really did offer a bit of variety, with gigs and some fun times to be had. My finest hour there was winning a bottle of Lamot Pils for a rendition of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds on the karaoke - get in!

Don't know the real reason it closed. Heard lots of rumours about drugs and violence, which truth be told were probably true, but still unsure if they were the actual reasons. I heard one rumour about the police refusing to give its license back due to security as well, but again no idea if that was the case.

Shame really, used to quite like Thursdays in there. Not a nightclub type of person, but the attic and cellar were alright.

I always heard it was to do with continually breaking fire regs about the amount of people in there.

It's the only Nightclub I've ever enjoyed.
