Shame they've had get a big screen telly in, Pete would never have 1.
Sad when you have get Sky to bring in the punters.

Holy crappamoly. :o

I guess that sign, the one that Glam could never quite get to grips with the directionals of, is now defunct.

Also, Black Sheep looks like it has gone as a regular feature - shame that. Noticed that Doom Bar was on during a lightning stop on Polling Day - assumed it was a Guest, looks like it is the new Sheep on the Block.

Swings 'n' Roundabouts. :)

I thought that earlier. How long now till there's a jukebox and Pool table too?
And will the Wednesday night quiz still be on?

Sorry for the Cockup in my previous post. I got so carried away in a splenetic report on the 'makeover' that I overshot the edit time limit. Anyway here is calmer & shorter report n my visit just after that picture & report appeared in the E&S last week. An absolute DISASTER. No effort has been spared to remove every last trace of Pete's eclectic Decor. The postcards, blunt idiosyncratic signage, historic artefacts and lending library are all gone. In their place is a bland interior which it is genuinely difficult to recall only hours later. Finally,I don't want to be rude or cruel but despite the new landlords considerable physical presence he is as a shadow compared to his predecessor. Sad day.

Whilst I found Pete to be quite rude and disrespectful at times we enjoyed the pub and the atmosphere.

We only pop in occasionally now and I'm not sure whether it will be the same if all of the oddities have been removed. There is still a nice atmosphere in terms of the clientele though.

The new menu doesn't look particularly exciting and I can't see the sausage mash and veg from the webpage on the menu unless this is one of the Sunday roast offerings. There is nothing on the quiz night tab but I believe it is still happening.

Anyway I will try it for myself before making any further judgement but the signs of retaining a tradional old boozer don't look too promising so far.

I read in the paper it was a 90k make over, it must have gone on the new bar in the lounge and the tiny bit of flooring in front of it and the toilets which are very nice. As for the lounge it looked like someone was moving out not moving in when we called in! The decor in lounge and furniture is cold, dated and lacks character. Disappointing I preferred it before.

And will Mrs Merton still be claiming her table?
Mrs Merton arrived one time ready to do battle with the masses, only to find a couple sat at 'her table' eating a meal. She kept staring at them all the time they were eating and dropping hints that they were sat at 'her table'. Just to pee her off, they took their time eating.
As time got closer to the quiz so the hints got louder and louder. She almost blew a gasket when they decided to stay and do the quiz!
After that, she demanded that Pete save her table for her. He said no, the only one who had a table reserved was Mary, cos she had a dodgy hip or sumat. After that she started going the quiz less and less.

I was there that night, but had left by the time the couple decided to stay. Heard all about it the next night. Great fun.

Just had a chat with Mrs H and she remembers it as well.

We also think Pete started putting a plastic reserved sign on the table shortly afterwards.
