Hi everyone. I have the best dog around... a huge leonberger called bear. Hes trained and very friendly. Sad news is my daughter has asthma and we've made the heatbreaking desicion to give him away as hes very hairy and dusty and seems to make her worse. If anyone local would like a dog that looks like a lion/bear or knows anyone that can help, can u let me know please? U need a big garden. No time wasters please this is hard enough

I have just googled the breed.I really wish I had a house big enough. I would snap your hand off.
Really sorry you have to lose him, but your daughter comes first xx

Can you giive me more details, one of my staff is on the look out for a new dog, already having a great dane and a spaniel, so I will pass the information on to him

I would take him to a respected dogs home where they will ensure that he goes to the right family.

He obviously needs plenty of room and by giving him away to anyone....well you don't know who they are or their circumstances.

It always amazes me when people who work long hours choose a dog as a pet. Dogs are social creatures who need company and it's so so sad that so many are left alone all day.

i'm quite capable of finding a good home for him thanks. this way i can see where hes going and know hes in a good place, rather than dumping him at a kennels, never knowing what happened to him. i would of course, view the house and ask about who they are and their circumstances im not planning on 'giving him away to anyone'
and he gets plenty of time spent with him, thats not why we're giving him away.

Well there are kennels and there are kennels.

And there are good dog owners and there are others who think they are good dog owners but really put themselves before their dog.

Then there are people who just not do their research properly before buying a dog.

If you have watched any of the Battersea Dogs Home programmes on TV then you would realise that if you really love your dog but for whatever reason you can't care for it then you are not DUMPING a dog but are trusting your beloved animal to the experts, who have experienced staff to give your dog the love, care and attention that it needs.

At this point I will reveal that I have put LAFB in contact with people who recently lost their beloved Newfoundland. They seem to be very suitable people to care for such a dog - I hope that it all goes well.

Carole, I may be wrong, but you are coming across as accusing the very lovely LAFB as being neglectful? If you read her post, she has told us that her baby daughter has asthma, which is increased by the contact she has with the dog.
And as for thinking you are a good dog owner, but put yourself before the animal, hell yes.

Oh yes I can see what you mean.

I wasn't actually meaning that LAFB was neglectful and it's fully understandable that children come first.

I was just going off tangent and having a rant about some people.....it's a real bug bear of mine of people who have dogs etc then can't be bothered to walk them. Or leave them at home alone all day while they go out to work.

So apologies to LAFB if you thought I meant you were a bad owner.

Perhaps, when LAFB finds a new owner, LAFB could provide all the maintenacne a massive gorgeous amazing dog requires, then the guilt woudln't be so high, fair?

Weekend visits could be araranged etc etc, it's all that a massive gorgeous amazing dog deserves, right?

Good luck LAFB.

I think it would probably confuse the poor thing having both 'owners' around. Fine for the transitional period but after that I'd say no.

I'm so glad that Gramaisc has found a potential new home for him. I was seriously getting tempted as I love our dogs and there is someone here most of every day to keep them company. Although we have 3 dogs as it is which is plenty and i'm glad you've removed the temptation G. ;)

Let's not count our puppies before they're whelped..

It did sound like a plausible arrangement, though.

thanks kyoto, i left them a message a week or so ago and havn't heard back yet. the ideal arrangement for me is that i find a place myself, i know what he'd like, and i wouldn't want to not know where he was or that he was 100% happy with where he was.

every dog owner is different and everyone has different opinions on what makes a good dog owner. i don't need to justify my actions beyond what i said in my original message, it makes no odds to me whether i fit your category of good or bad dog owner... what i am is a good mum. if i was selfish i would keep him as hes awesome, but lucy comes first. (and noone will miss him more than lucy! but what can you do.)

looks like im taking bear to visit the nice lady sometime this weekend - lets hope they fall in love!

thanks to glam for having my back. deez streets are hard. innit. braaap!
