You're doing the right thing LAFB, we found ourselves in a similar position a few years ago & wouldn't of considered for a second sending him off to kenels....we were lucky in that friends of friends took our dog - they had been grieving the loss of their last dog for two years, we went to meet them at their house (had only met them a few times before) they showed us the local dog walking area (right on their doorstep) one of the people was retired & the other semi retired -so lots of attention for him.

Originally we arranged for our dog to stay with the couple just for the weekend to see how they all got on...they fell in love with him, and when we returned to pick him up we could see that he adored them too.

We receive updates all the time, can visit whenever we like & they often post pictures of him.

It was a heartbreaking decision, but we did the best for him & us.

Yes I know what you mean.....ours couldn't of cared less when we went to visit him.....he was totally in love with his new owners.

We only visited once, I was too upset that he wasn't even bothered that we were there...but his new owners still ask if we want to visit & the offer is always there of photos & we still get updates as & when we want them... above all I knew he had gone to a good home.

Hope you find him somewhere as good & caring :)

Ok, so you convinced me. I can see how it can sometimes work if you know the person. Or if someone you know knows the person.

I have just had the following report.

My Agent said:
Just to let you know that Bear has found an amazing new home with Xxx, he has settled in and is getting lots of walks, plus he has his very own settee. He is a really wonderful and well behaved monster dog. He has a great mum in Xxx, she even slept downstairs his first couple of nights until he felt settled. I call it a result and not sure if you want to update the Forum to let concerned parties know x I call that a result xx

All seems well.

I am so glad you have found a loving home - personally I think these websites are better to find homes for your pets that you sadly need to rehome - you have more control to ensure you find them forever homes.

I will be honest I was tempted - I really miss having a furry beast around :) xx now I just have my feathered beast ;)

Congrats on finding a home x
