Haha! Derrington is lovely (my oldies live there), but it is a bit like 'Gods waiting room' as my husband puts it ;) Theres probably only 2 familys with kids there.....the more I think about it the more I want to move there.

Have to disagree with you about Parkside Alee.....I thought it had got quite a bad reputation for random roaming kids?
(Not that I can say anything with where I live!!)

What sort of things do you like? May help people direct you to the better places.

I'm not fussed when it comes to food, I basically like everything.

As long as it's not somewhere where it's way to greasy that it slides off your plate haha

Nothing mega expensive just to lunch really, possibly somewhere to snack in the evening.

I can't drink and eat, I'll be asleep within half an hour... I'm quite happy to admit that on a thread with people I don't really know yet

Id just like to point out it's not old age... I hope

Surrounding areas:

Eccleshall is lovely and has a great high street with lots of one off shops and places to eat and drink, although you do pay a premium on property in Eccleshall.

I love Woodseaves, out in the sticks but it does come with a pub, primary school and convenience shop.

Gnosall is great, primary school, 4 pubs, a café and a few shops, you also have the canal and disused railway which are great for traffic free cycling and running.

I'm not a massive fan of Haughton but it might be somewhere worth considering, there are a few shops and a couple of pubs and the disused railway line runs past.

Derrington, Church Eaton, Ranton and Seighford are all nice areas but there's not much going on, all (except Derrington?) have a primary school all (except Ranton) have a pub but there's not much else.

My advice? move somewhere where you can walk or cycle to everything you need. Driving a car is nightmare in Stafford and set to get much worse.

So maybe more the outskirts?

Thanks. I may even try and be employed by a gym as I'll be starting from scratch with new clients etc.

I second the being able to walk places, I've got friends who like in Walton-on-the-hill and in Brocton - both lovely places and they were both saying how moving just that little bit further out of town had made them appreciate where they used to live in easy walking distance, especially as they have kids.

Gnosall is quite sprawling but can have a good community spirit when it put's it's mind to it. Stone too - but it's a bit more organised and has a larger center (the difference between a town and a village I suppose).

But as with anything you get out of communities what you out into it and there's nowhere around here that's truly terrible to live.

Similarly, plenty of nice places to lunch or dine in Stafford (one of my favorite past times) - Pastiche, Post House, No 15, Bean Encounter, The Swan, The Bear, Food 4 Thought, The Soup Kitchen, The Grove Coffee House, Brambles to name only the independents (and then I've probably missed a few)

I duno about the bad reputation . Never really noticed any roaming kids when I lived there . I was in one of the streets closest the beacon side road though , maybe they just don't go up that far lol . I lived there when I was in my teens aswell for a while and remember it was very boring and pretty much everyone used to smoke weed down subway. When I returned a few years ago it seemed to have calmed down , maybe the kids have found new places to hang out :-D

Knowing my luck I'll probably end up living where they decide to now hang out.

Is beaconside the top end near MoD? That's as far as I've been besides tesco

Whats the castle like? Might take a visit up there. I love exploring, been to part of Cannock chase walking around there up the hills and stuff

Beaconside is the road from the A34 roundabout at the Northern boundary, round past the MOD to the ( soon to be shut) university, where it joins Weston Road.
