Stafford Traffic.

Simple, the road isn't very good for overtaking, there's no pedestrian footway, at least one of the bridges is listed and therefore can't be demolished and replaced. The chances of road improvements are very minimal.

The money came from a central government green improvements fund, so if Stafford hadn't been given the money somewhere else would, so we should welcome the fact Stafford was chosen. I've been across the bridge today and it's a great improvement to my cycle commute.

I can't see what the problem people have with the bridge.

Please don't misunderstand me, I love the idea of improvements specifically for cycling, i was just wondering if a cost benefit analysis had been done, it wasn't a dig at the bridge, I can;t wait to use it :)

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
I have driven past the 'Bridge to Nowhere' 2-3 times daily since it's been open and every time I have seen someone using it. Both cyclists and pedestrians.

The novelty value is still there.... on lunch at the Tech Park on Tuesday I almost walked there to have a look and walk across and straight back.... changed my mind quickly when it started pouring down, but will do one day soon...

More roadworks today (Severn Trent) in Brocton controlled by traffic lights. So we now have the Milford Road closed until June, 3 way traffic lights at Milford and now further works in Brocton :( Who is responsible for scheduling these road works?

I've just taken a walk across the bridge and back again.

.......and?
  1. Did you enjoy it?
  2. Is it recommended?
  3. Well designed?
  4. A thing of architectural beauty that will gain conservation status in years to come?
Tell!!
  1. Yes
  2. Yes
  3. Yes - with the proviso that the crossing on Baswich Lane really MUST be prioritised for pedestrians/cyclists as a matter of the kind of URGENCY that calls for CAPITAL LETTERS
  4. Well, i wouldn't go that far
It is a thing of loveliness.

Shame they couldn't get straight tops of railings for £1.7m, perhaps their seconds.

Leaving aside whether the path is pointless or dangerous, did it really cost £1.6m to build, or is part of that now resting in a council bank account, or being used to fix Scaffold Place?

I understand the 2 (?) landowners did very well out of it, or so I'm told. Especially considering most of the land is a flood plain

Sorry, I said £1.7m, it was in fact £1.6m, it'll of course come out that it actually cost £1.8m.

Connectivity Support Officer for Cycling*, sounds posh!

"The modern design of the bridge blends in with the surroundings, and the lighting is environmentally and wildlife-friendly only coming on as people cycle or walk past it. The bridge is also raised so it won't be affected by flooding."

How exactly does a modern design blend in with open fields and rivers? And how are flashing lights environmentally and wildlife friendly?

Still, seems that the council really did have some top brains working on the project to come up with the idea of raising the bridge so it won't be affected by flooding. Eat your heart out, I.K. Brunel.
