I was at school through the '60s and early '70s, nobody ever had nits.
I've never had nits , and son has never had them either. I've never actually seen them but would have feaked out if I'd have seen anything crawling on his head! I remember the nit nurse paying regular visits to the school in the 60's , as well as one who checked feet for verruccas (I did have a massive one of them, caught in the brine baths, and was so embarassing when the nurse pointed it out in front of the whole class. Had to have a big hole dug in my foot in a little old building in Tipping Street. )

Does always worry me if any customers in the hairdressers before me had nits as I've never seen the brushes and combs being cleaned between clients :hmm:

We never had nits or ever even saw a nit-nurse - it was just something that you heard about from the past, like rickets and TB.

The nurses came in quite regularly in Leasowes in the 4 years I was there, we all had to line up and have her firking through your hair .We didn't really know what she was looking for and I never saw them find anything on anyone. As you say it was something you heard of in the past .

I went to ten schools - no sign of any nits or precautions - all I remember is a colour-blindness test and a hearing test.

I remember being mystified by people asking me if I could see things - of course I can bloody see them...
