Parent teachers evening at school last night, they gave us a letter & permission slip for Standon Bowers. So Daughter (9yrs) is off there for 5 days (4nights) in May.

Now I thought she would really look forwards too & enjoy it.......but the news was met with floods of tears! Eeeek! She's announced that shes not going (she flippin is)!

Its all because she's never (except for 1sleepover last year) been away from me or home before....

Her (much) older brothers went & had a great time, but I can't really remember what they did....

Anyone got children that have been recently? What activitys did they do? What did they eat? etc etc etc.....

...any help or info would be great!

I shall ask my wife. Can't remember if she goes there or Chasewater with her school.

I went and loved it but it was 30 years ago :lorks: I think my eldest went and she too had a great time. There was an assault type course on the grounds with possible high wire type things. I went walking including a night walk. Caving, there was canoeing but we went at the wrong time of the year for that. Abseiling. Nature studies and some orienteering. The food was appalling when I was there i'm sure it is much improved. The dorms were an experience and haunted, best not repeat that bit lol.
She'll have a great time :)

Show her this - full-screen, so she can't see the title - tell her it's somewhere that's very similar - if she thinks that it's not so bad, then reveal that this is actually there....

@Gadget & @Gramaisc...

..."I'm not doing that, I'm not doing that, I'm not doing THAT, I'm not doing that, I'm not doing that either! I'm not going, I'M JUST NOT GOING"!

She has no sense of adventure.

My son has just today returned from his second week there. He was dubious the first time around and didn't seem at all keen, but when he came back and we asked if he had missed us at all he just replied "no" with a big cheesy smile!

Caving, climbing, bmx riding... all sorts of different stuff but he loves the caving the most. Now we are just starting to wash 3 huge 11kg loads of muddy tracksuits etc on top of our usual 6 loads from the family of 7's weekly wear.... arghhhhhhh!!!! Washing it's not the issue, but getting it dry is.

He said "we had pizza chips and peas / curry / chicken / sandwiches & sugar puffs". I'm not sure that was in any sort of correct order ;)
They pretty much give them standard stuff they'd eat at home really.

My daughter went 5 years ago when she was at Tillington, she loved it, and was very proud to tell me that she had changed her trousers once during the week :)

They were unfortunate to have a cold week in January, but she did the climbing wall, some hike in a forest, some team building exercise, caving and she had a great time. I think it's partly about their peer group and how much they send out positive vibes!!

Food wise, well I have no idea, but we're vegetarian and that didn't seem to be a problem.

I think it really helps their self-esteem that they have managed for 4 days without you, although my daughter was very happy to be back home all warm and cosy!!

Have you persuaded her yet lm? Spawn 3 is off to somewhere called Laches Wood in a couple of weeks. It's only 2 nights but she's really looking forward to it. Bloody expensive mind! £135 for 3 days, 2 nights.

Tell her it's actually Leaches Wood - and to keep her trousers tucked into her socks.

Hmm it could go one of two ways, she'll either be delighted and spend all of the time looking for them orrr she could freak out and scream for an hour or so lol.

I went some 25ish years ago and throughly enjoyed it. The eldest 2 of me 3 spawns have both also been the one just 12 months ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. It really bought them both out of themselves - but god they were exhausted when they got home.

She is alternating between half wanting to go & being adamant that she's not going. I've told her she has no choice & has to go, but she just twists it round & says I just want to get rid of her!!!

I thought our trip was expensive at £90 for 5 days/4 nights - but that's ridiculous!

Isn't it. I know they need higher supervision because of their needs but it's silly money. I'm sure she'll be fine lol

It's roughly that here, however in the time since my first post on this today and now, I've put the letter down telling me about it and can't find it.:bravo: I'm extremely good at that
