Examples of poor driving you have witnessed!

Not a problem specific to Stafford, but why do people who are obviously poorly sighted drive in the dark? Had the misfortune to follow someone like this from Stafford to Newport the other night. Despite the fact it's, in the main, a 60mph road, the driver in front of me never went faster than 40 and slammed on his brakes everytime a car came towards us. It became clear they were struggling to see where they were going. Surely people are able to realise they have a sight problem and not drive when it's dark?

Oh dear, where to start?

Firstly, just because a road has a limit of 60mph does NOT mean that it is compulsory to drive at this speed at all times.

It would actually be foolhardy to do so, especially at night when one has to take into account reduced visibilty and the fact that it is harder to judge distance and speed than when it is daylight.

At 60mph it takes 200 ft to stop and bearing in mind that on an unlit stretch of road you can only see a few metres ahead of you then only the foolish would drive at speed.

If the driver in front was braking quite often then this would ONLY be a problem to you if you were driving TOO CLOSE to him. If you were keeping a safe distance then this should not impact on you.

It might be possible that the driver was doing the thing that drivers do when they have a road rage/road hog/ driver right up their backside .......continually tap on the brakes really quickly to warn the idiot behind them to "BACK OFF".

Some people are also nervous drivers particularly in the dark

Or perhaps taking extra care?

Then take up another form of transport. A car can kill, if theyre that nervous that they only go at just over half the speed limit and slam on they're brakes every time another car approaches they are a danger to themself and others on the road. My advice, stay off the road and think of the other innocent people!!!

Impatient drivers are as much a menace to the roads as nervous drivers.

What a load of crap.

Point1. I was not driving too close, I did not have road rage and neither was I being a road hog. I was driving very far back to ensure that I had plenty of stopping time, so don't assume I was driving incorrectly. You also don't need to teach me the highway code, I passed this test with full marks, so I know that as well.

BUT, you can fail your driving test for not making enough progress, i.e , going too slow. It's a danger to other road users. On a clear road, even at night time that road is easily driveable at up to 60mph for alot of it (hence the speed limit), and I have no issue if poeple want to go more cautiously given the road does have bends and villages along it's course, but to never get past 40, even on the straight bits, and to slam on your breaks every time a car approaches is not careful cautious safe driving, it's a sign of someone who can't see sh*t and is therefore a massive danger to other road users. If you'd have read what I wrote correctly I said they only braked when a car approached, so nothing to do with any cars behind.

Now get off your ill informed critical high horse.

Your reply was nothing less than I expected.

However I repeat that just because the limit is 60mph does not mean a person has to drive at that speed just to suit the road hog behind.

A very slow driver is someone driving at 10mph or 15mph.

40mph is perfectly reasonable at night so I stand by my comments that you appear to be an impatient driver.

And your patronising drivel is exactly what I expect from you.

FFS, how difficult is it for you to understand that i am not a road hog. This thread is for bad driving examples, and to me slamming on your brakes and reducing your speed to 25 mph ina 60 zone everytime someone drives towards you with their lights on is bad driving and very dangerous. You disagree, but I don't give a rats tw*t to be fair given your misinformed perceptions. How you can comment on my driving having never witnessed it sums you up totally.

Simply pointing out the aggressive tone that is in your posting, you don't happen to wear cycling gear and shout at the cars going by when you're out on your bike do you

My aggressive tone was in response to Carole's misinformed reply to my post which is full of inaccurate assumptions about my driving.

Nope. I wear normal clothes and don't go near cars thanks!

This depends very much on the headlights of the oncoming car. Are they dipped, are they correctly adjusted, has the driver illegally fitted those very bright lights in a car that is not designed for them ... ?

The lights on every car crap driver encountered were fine. I also had to drive towards them and had no issues.

Idiot silver VW driver (reg BV14 WTE) who followed us all the way from junction 13 into Stafford. Cut another driver up at the island and then proceeded to drive up our arse the whole way, repeatedly trying to overtake.. At one point nearly into an oncoming lorry. No idea what he was trying to achieve as we were in a long line of traffic so he wasn't going to get anywhere fast. Twat.
