Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
I cannot see why the hockey pitch is being recommended for refusal. There is the need for that pitch and the 3G at Evans Park. The two can co-exist easily in my opinion.

I'd be surprised if the committee members went against the officers recommendation for refusal. Committee members are generally a 'thick' bunch that will go along with their officers unless it will affect their own self interests.

Your best hope is to appeal. I hope you do appeal and go for costs. If you go for costs and win, it will be the lovely taxpayers footing the bill. However, you've got a strong case and I'd love to see you give SBC a bloody nose! Good luck.

But not in the opinion of institutions who don't control one part of a potential revenue stream. File under "cash cow"

Yes, but really there should be no need. We're a voluntary organisation that just about keeps its head above water. The treasurer is 87 years old and basically runs a business that has to turn over 150K just keep the shutters up and just to provide the opportunity for people to knock balls about. Can you imagine the work and cost just to have got us to this stage? And then all this with Sport England and the borough council.

They really should firstly hang their heads in shame, then consider their positions and resign....

And in terms of Beaconside...Why do you think the university is actually moving to Stoke? Perhaps it has to do with a more convivial local authority??

From 2017, almost the entire Leisure & Culture portfolio will be under new management - most likely these http://www.wlct.org/wigan/
mmmmmm, which begs an interesting question or two - Does this potentially de-politicise "SBC Leisure" and would a private members club, promoting sport on private premises be scuppered by such a de-politicised organisation as it is currently by a politicised one?

"But its policy dear boy, policy"

Why have they finally recommended for refusal now? The same week it's announced the only hockey pitch in stafford will be closing in 18 months. Why hasn't this new situation been taken into account and the decision delayed a little longer. Or does it not suit the council's interest to do this now.

I currently use the 3g pitch up at beaconside regularly once a week for a full 90 minute football match. Been doing this for years. Guess well have to pack it in now then as there is no chance of getting on rowley park at the same time on the same day each week. Its ridiculous that rowley park will be the only floodlit pitch a team can play on in an evening. Once there is no competition the prices will be hiked you can guarantee that much.

I don't think the surface is 3G at Beaconside. Well at least it wasn't the last time I was there a couple of years ago.

Apologies for people who follow the thread and/or care about the outcome of the planning application - the intimation that it was going to committee appears not to have been true.....the application had been refused (as predicted by anyone with a half a brain on this forum)

With the Beaconside situation and this decision it almost certainly means that Stafford Cricket and Hockey Club have been given a death sentence.

Put that thought in your pipe and smoke it!

The application has been refused by delegated powers????

If that is the case I find that very odd. Are you friendly with your local councillor or any members of the planning committee, if you are contact them.

I would also contact the ombudsman and complain.

I was a bit confused by that when looking through the latest documents last night. It said refused but there was an email/letter talking about the date it would go to committee.

I thought any refused planning application could be challenged and have to go for review?

Has a report been produced recommending the application for refusal?? This is known as a committee report and will be found in the committee meetings bit on the council website.

If the application has been refused by delegated powers the report will be uploaded in the planning applications bit.

You can check if your application is going to committee by calling democratic services.

There is an SBC Decision Notice and an SBC Officers Report posted in the documents section of the planning application

The Officers report says "Recommendation - Refuse" and the decision notice states "Stafford Borough Council, in pursuance of powers under the Town and Country Planning Act, hereby refuse the above development in accordance with the accompanying plans and subject to the following reasons...."

I have just read the officers report, which was prepared by Sarah Poxon (Case Officer). Sarah used (I thought still did) to work at South Staffs Council.

I have only briefed read the report but in summary 'what a load of crap'. You've got to appeal that decision and go for costs.

The reason for refusal is laughable and its reference to the uncertainty of Beaconside is also wrong...it has already been announced its closing and at end date has been set.

I assume you've got a planning consultant assisting you with this application. Speak to them. Get legal advice and if you can afford to appeal the decision. If your cost application is successful all of your appeal costs will be reimbursed. Sadly, appeals are not cheap!

To clarify - Sarah sent our agent an email last week advising that it was going to committee on 27th Jan. In the meantime, an un-named councillor has decided that there "was no need for it to go to committee" and could be delegated. hence, decision notice which caught us on the hop and sunk beneath the water line.
