Leave or Remain?

You see that's what I want, to have the choice to please myself whenever and whatever! Instead of having not work to a routine on a weekly basis just to fit around work! What is your secret?
Not having a job.

Has anybody that was going to vote to leave decided to vote to remain on the basis on these "new arrangements"?

I'd have to wait for retirement!

Not had a chance to read up on the new arrangements yet, they were still in the meeting when I was listening to the radio earlier.

Quite oddly, it seems to me, Irish, Cypriot and Maltese citizens resident in the UK get to vote, (as do non-EU Commonwealth citizens resident here, I think).

They'll let whoever is most likely to agree with them vote, and stop as many of those who will disagree as possible.

I've not paid attention to be honest, been so busy I wasn't aware we had new arrangements!

I can see nothing to change my mind, I guess the news channels will now be falling over themselves to host a live debate program/s.

I'm not sure that that is wholly the case - if Australians, etc., can vote, then they might be keen on leaving, to reduce restrictions on them entering.

And South Africans might be a bit unimpressed by the attempt to deport a 92-year-old with no relatives left in South Africa - http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/...outh-africa-deportation-battle-myrtle-cothill .

Apparently, this is who can vote - according to the EU Referendum Act of 2015 - only British, Irish and Commonwealth citizens over the age of 18 who are resident in the UK or Gibraltar will be able to vote. British citizens who have lived abroad for less than 15 years will also have their say.

All seems a bit odd to me.

I still don't get this at all. Why can't we leave but have a reciprocal agreement with the EU where we still allow tax free imports from each other? I assume I'm missing something major, but I have no idea what!

You can have a reciprocal agreement, where there is reciprocation, but, if one side doesn't want it, then the other side can't insist. That's the whole point of the single market.

Because if we did it then everyone else would want to as well and the EU would collapse, putting thousands of bureaucrats and pen-pushers into total unemployability and forcing hundred of MEPs to leave the gravy train and get a proper job.

The unelected and unemployable would never allow that to happen.

So we tax them, they tax us, we use the tax we charge them to offer benefits to people exporting to the EU to balance it out a bit?

And you pay all the bureaucrats counting the money backwards and forwards until there's none left.

That's how it was before.

I can't see why you could not have the same trade system in place, there is a trade imbalance between UK and EU with EU importing 60+ billion more into the UK than we export. There is no way EU countries would want to harm that. It would cost them more than us.?

EU businesses would not want to harm that, but the unemployable and unelected would see it as a small price to pay to prove a point and stay on the gravy train.

They might try and make things difficult but if it threatens to cost significant numbers of jobs in the EU then they may have their hands tied.?

OK, use all taxes gained from import duties to fund the Royal Mail (yes, take it back!) whereby anyone vat registered can send parcels within the UK at a reduced rate. Don't do it per parcel, do it end of year, and they just divide the tax by the parcels sent to arrive at a refund. That way UK businesses can provide stuff to UK buyers at a reduced rate.

Also tell Amazon/Starbucks/Google to do one, in cases 1 and 3 until they agree to pay comparable tax to UK businesses and in case 2 just do one. And ban Bono from entering the UK, ever, unless he kills that coloured fella that thinks he's a genius cos his wife has a massive arse. I think he thinks he makes music? Dunno, saw stuff on the pirate bay of his but would rather watch adverts for incontinence towels than listen to him.

Import duties will simply be passed on, with handling charges, to the consumer. The Government has no intention of funding Royal Mail in any way - privatising it was national policy.

Also tell Amazon/Starbucks/Google to do one
Being nice to their special friends over tax arrangements is also specifically a national government policy.

I would expect neither of these things to change for what we might think to be the better.

If people actually want this to happen, then they might try voting Corbyn....

We could also re-employ all the "unemployed bureaucrats", if that was to actually happen, to negotiate the myriad of new trade agreements that would become necessary when we aren't covered by the existing communal EU ones.
