I still think Stafford needs a decent Italian restaurant or even a Mediterranean one ... something like Ask or Ego..

As chain restaurants go, I have no issue with either Ask or Ego and think either would be a welcome addition to Stafford.

However, I would NOT consider either of them to be an authentic Italian restaurant.

If anyone does think so then they have never eaten in Italy.

Not everyone has the money to travel to Italy do they?

Don't think that Carole meant you had to go to Italy to get authentic Italian food. Just that Ask or Ego aren't as authentic as they'd have you believe.

Yes I know that but not everyone wants authentic prices do they?

Wish we could have authentic Italian prices. I've had some very good inexpensive food over there. But do get your drift.

basil

don't mention the blinds
As a Stafford tycoon I'd ensure

New shedend at Marston road
MaccyD s is demolished
The Green Library restored
New door at the Floodgate
Pedestrian priority at Newport rd/Station Rd
Public toilets on the square exhumed
Stantons granted Freedom of the Borough
WSFFs free in my favourite hostelries
Blinds fitted in Railway Inn
Dogs banned at the castle.......

Not all authentic Italian restaurants are expensive....far from it. In fact, family run restaraunts tend to be cheaper, smaller and cosier than the chain restaurants.

Pasta and Pizza are hardly expensive ingredients.

And to correct my earlier post, no you don't actually have to go to Italy to find a good Italian restaurant.

But I do expect as a minimum, Italian chefs and waiters and, some effort made to indicate representation of the country itself.

Each to their own but I don't consider any chain to be "authentic Italian".

It doesn't mean that I don't enjoy a meal in say Pizza Express but when I do, I think of myself as "going out for a pizza" rather than "going out to a nice Italian restaurant."

I'd be happy with an Ask or and Ego, and I've been to Italy

You are missing the point (I think).

I am also happy with Ask and Ego and have had many a pleasant evening in them and for the record I would be happy to have one in Stafford as I did say in a previous post.

But they dont compare to authentic Italian restaurants. They are different is all.

I can see I am going to wear myself out with this one.

Ask and Ego are great places, especially Ego, but the idea that they are authentically Italian is laughable.

I'm only kidding - I've had some truly grim meals and a fair few unforgettable meals in Italy - I don't think you need to have chefs from a specific country to cook that countries food - In read an interesting article on the topic earlier

Ego just described themselves as non specifically 'Mediterranean' - which means almost nothing in terms of specific cuisine. I've spent spent of time in restaurants in sunny places around the med to know it's no exactly a quantifiable cuisine with some serious variations along the way - it doesn't mean that Ego can't make a decent pizza.

Back on Thread - I'm also thinking we need a branch of BarBurrito (although I'll take any chain of anything that makes a tasty burrito - that empty shop next to Tony and Guy I've never seen anything in ever would work nicely for that.
