Spending Money

Reading through the threads over years that I have been on the forum, it appears that there is a vast amount of difference in terms of disposable income.

But with the disposable income available people do choose to spend money on what is important to them.

For example, my OH likes nice cars. I have no interest.

He likes gadgets, I have no interest.

I am not a shopper. I don't desire handbags or designer labels.
I don't feel the need to shop at Waitrose, Aldi is fine for me.

What my OH and me have in common though is memories and experiences.

We choose to spend our money on lovely holidays and weekends away when we can.

So what do you like spending any spare cash that you have on?

I like clothes, cars, eating out and holidays ... in that order.

I tend to put mine in the bank. I probably should put slightly less away, and live in the moment.

Football and golf is where I spend the majority. We do have nice holidays, but not quite as many as I'd like - I blame the OH for that!

You spend more on clothes than cars?
I know somebody that, even I became aware, never wore the same thing twice - this is over twenty years - I saw her twice a week for a decade, and down to about twice a month these days, but I have never seen anything on her that I have ever seen before.

My OH spends his on gadgets. We will need a bigger house soon for everything he keeps buying.

It is a bit bizarre and a bit sad that people are so insecure in themselves that they feel that they are judged by their clothes.
As in they have to wear a designer label.

In certain circles they probably ARE judged by their clothes.
As in they have to wear a designer label.

In my mind as long as clothes are clean, why should cost come into it?

I think she just likes clothes and experiments all the time.

Like you said it depends on how insecure you are and judgemental you are. Although a smart person knows that appearances can be deceptive.
I'm generally fairly badly dressed and couldn't care less if someone chooses to make a judgement based on that, more fool them I say.
If someone were to meet me for the first time they would have no idea of my disposable income and this is the way I like it. Often price gouging occurs if someone feels you have more money. I have seen it time and time again. Best to let your adversary underestimate you and then you get the last laugh.

Most of my friends are the same. When Jon got divorced he left his Jag at home and went to see all his dates in his 15 year old car which was used mainly for getting about with his dogs. He took his dates to modest local places and got to know them first and only after a year or so did he begin to show them he might have a few quid in reserves.
