Leave or Remain?

Lefroy must be very grateful for the fact the fence he sits on has no sharp bits. Still it must hurt is arse, being on it so much of the time.
Today's email from Jezza carried this.

European Union Referendum

The decision to be taken by referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union is one of the most important in a very long time. It is therefore vital that people have as much information as possible on which to base their decision.

I have stated that my personal belief is that our country will be best served by remaining a member of the EU. But I am determined to do what I can to ensure that constituents have full information on the debate – not simply sound bites or negative campaigning from either side.

There will be some public meetings in Stafford constituency before the referendum in which I shall take part.

For a detailed analysis of some of the major areas of the debate with lots of statistics - I recommend the following report:

voting OUT here.

at my level of stature , i would imagine it would make jack sh*t difference if we left.
being a carer of a partner with disabilities , we both are deemed the lowest of the low by this government anyway .
with this in mind , human rights are already being ignored anyway so no loss there.

... on the plus side , should we leave , im sure we will see Cameron leaving by the back door shortly after .

I imagine you could vote for a Labour Party offering a coherent alternative to the Tories led by a Leader who could be realistically considered as the next Prime Minister. Or is that too much to ask for?

So resign ourselfs for perpetual Tory rule and Brussels Overlords?

The first seems obvious

Some people must have actually voted them in

Brussels in only the place - at least the legislation from there has the balance of many nations rather than one nasty bunch of sons of land owners and tax dodgers who want to shaft your bleeding anus and wreck or sell everything decent that is left of this country

But people will only lash out for about half an hour. After that they open another bag of crisps

Peace man - cheese n onion?

I'm rather counting on the Brussels Overlords mitigating the potentially lethal effects of perpetual - unfettered - Tory rule. Not exactly 'up there' in the 'I have a dream' stakes, admittedly, but one has to be realistic.

I promised a 'politically engaged' youngling the other day that i would vote however they would like me to, given that this is as much, or possibly more, about them than me. So that's how i'll vote.

Well we seem to be in the midst of quite a reasoned, well measured debate thus far -

- don't you think?

My thoughts so far:

I want our country to be independent.
I don't trust the bastards in charge.
The EU mitigates the bastards decisions.
The bastards will have free reign if we leave.

So, for now, I guess I'm in. But purely because of the bastards in charge, I trust them less than any politicians I have ever had the misfortune to be misrepresented by. We're already giving our children's education to private firms, selling our hospitals to them (all financed by us, the taxpayer, but we get nothing back), imagine what they could do if unchecked?

An Indian gentleman recently said to me he always thought his own government was corrupt, but moving to the UK he realised they were more honest than ours.

The other day, I had this discussion.

"Well, I'm definitely going to vote to leave."
"Why?"
"We drink pints and drive miles."
"How many feet in a mile?"
"I dunno, a thousand and something?!

This is a once in a life time decision for most people and indeed it is a big decision to make. But I believe this is our only chance of getting off the European bandwagon which is committed to further expansion and closer integration.

My overriding fear is if we leave and there is a coup on the party leadership and we get Boris Bloody Johnson as a prime minister.
+ Iain Duncan Smith, Michael Gove, etc - and an electoral system that will hand them total control for ever.
