Any serious crime that involves violence, or the threat of violence, should carry a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years (i.e. not eligible for parole for at least 10 years).

And in the case of serious crimes involving more than one perpetrator, then anyone found guilty should not only serve their own sentence, but then serve (consecutively) the sentence of those not found/convicted.

Its time the politicians prioritised the general public / victims.

Oh, and concurrent sentences should only be applicable in cases where someone is charged with more than one offence relating to the same crime. Different crimes = consecutive sentences.

Message to politicians: that is what is meant by tough on crime & tough on the causes of crime.

Don't be bloody stupid. Are you some sort of right-wing lunatic?!!

The only effective way of dealing with people like this is to wrap a collective arm round them. Make them feel special, loved and in need of our sympathy. Show them that the law and society in general values them at least as equally, if not more so, than those losers who are their 'victims'.

It's done us no harm up to now and will see us right for decades to come.

Your latest Smart Alert.

Four men in their thirties have been arrested following an armed robbery at the Tesco Express store on Stone Road, Stafford on Wednesday night (4 October).

The men, two of whom are 34, 36 and 32 years old respectively and all from the Stafford area have been arrested on suspicion of robbery. They remain in police custody as the investigation continues.

Good to know they have a good grasp of grammar/numbers XD

Seriously, if you 100% can prove you have the young man then let the locals kick them to death. It saves a lot of hassle. I farking hate thieves, if I'd been there I'd have ground the nearest glass bottle into one of the young men faces, and then probably been arrested for scaring the poor mite.

.....and all those in favour of Mob Law say blah blah blah......
There's a difference between mob law and a sentence that has a good deterrent effect, if found guilty, surely?

Pour decourager les autres...

No, that is what is meant by being tough on crime.

Being tough on the causes of crime is something entirely different.

I'm bored.

I would argue that one of the causes of crime is poor sentences, therefore tough sentences are part of being tough on the causes of crime. Of course, dealing with social deprivation, improving educational standards, improved policing etc. all play a part as well.
