I'm told that the village school in Ranton is to close unless it can get more pupils and nursery children

I'm available for making babies if anyone feels the need to sustain rural education

Purely to help our country neighbours you understand

Hayloft by arrangement

This is a (genuine) problem unconfined to 'free' schools - i know of at least one school in Stafford that is pretty close to financial meltdown.

I would be very surprised if it were the only one.

Shirley meltdown is rung

Money is electronic these days so what would a better simile be?

PS following my offer to repopulate Ranton school single, ehem, handedly. I was not surprised to see the story covered on the BBC news this evening.
I was however slightly disappointed to see the final edit which failed to show the huge queue to my door. I maybe ' away' for a while
Or I may just have awoken from a rather interesting dream....

I sent my children here because of the small class sizes, it's a lovely learning environment. It's so tucked away people think it's a million miles from Stafford but it's only a 10 minute drive. The school have there own fb page and there is a Save Ranton school Facebook page. I understand numbers are picking up. I hope it survives, it's a very nurturing school with a new headmaster who I hear is very good. It's a shame to lose village schools, not all children learn well in big classes.

Thread revival!

Hey fellow forumites I'm looking for current experiences and opinions of King Eddies please :) eldest spawn has been allocated a place there come September and I am woefully uninformed about the place having not even visited during open evening season. Feel free to reply here or pm me if you prefer public anonymity!

Enjoying a drop of red.

I really would make the time to go in and see for yourself, preferably with your child, in order to make your own mind up, if I were you.

Am doing so, just crowdsourcing too
Fair play. Attending Open Evenings is of limited value anyway. A visit during a normal school day will give you a much better idea.

A couple of acquaintances of mine have sent their kids there, one is deeply unhappy, the other delighted!

For what it's worth, King Eddies, Walton and Weston Rd. are the only three schools I've driven past at chucking out time and witnessed fights on multiple occasions.

Tbf you couldn't do that at Balfour, the path down from the school is *miles* long and well out of usual driving-past view
