Ducks...

On another note though, it was my eldest sons second ever word. We we're at the park when he started saying "Dada... duck! Dada... duck!". My wife said "Aw, bless him" as I got hit on the back of the head with a cricket ball.
On a similar note,
Apparently the American Secret Service are now being faced with embarrasment when protecting the President, They might have to shout,
"Donald Duck!".

Lidl has a few live ducks, and they regularly lay siege to the store, in the hope of getting a few freebies from exiting customers.

I had my faith restored in humanity a little today as both lanes of the rush hour traffic stopped on Greyfriars by the Waggon & Horses stopped while 3 ducks wandered around in the middle of the road :)

It appears we have acquired a pet. We have a duck nesting under the flax in our front garden.

It's been 'visiting' most evenings over the last couple of weeks, with its mate riding shotgun from the roofs of the houses across the road, but despite me shooing it away and putting chicken wire underneath the foliage to dissuade it, it seems to have taken up residence. It'll have to keep its head down; we're on the main dog-walkers route to Yelverton field. Fortunately (for the duck) cats in our front garden are a rarity.

Oh well - I guess we've just got to wait for the patter of tiny webbed feet. I don't know how they're going to get their introduction to water. The nearest is the canal - about 250m away as the duck flies.

Anyway, I guess the flax is going to get a severe prune some time in the autumn as we really don't want any more ducks next year. It didn't look too good after the winter we've had, but is now looking in surprisingly good condition.

Eat it and when the other one comes a looking eat that one as well.
Problem solv ed.
I've only had duck once or twice, probably for Christmas Dinner. I wasn't impressed.

And I did wonder about preparing some orange sauce and leaving it in the front garden to deter it rather than the chicken wire.

Anyway, it's karma of course after my two posts from last week.

It might be stating the obvious, but shortly after all the ducklings have hatched, they'll be marched (walked) to the water. This is probably the most dangerous time for them as, they will cross roads, oblivious to the traffic.

Time to order a few signs:
