I went to Lidl tonight. I would normally wait until around 9pm anyway, but I don't think I'll be venturing in there during daylight hours for the next month. It has the potential to be a bit of an issue.

Apparently, it is already 'very quiet' and staff are being treated to days out at other local stores.

When you say headquarters do you mean warehouse/logistics or head office?
It's at least the warehousing/distribution - I've had a planning 'consultation' postcard about it.

So the September roundabout works are probably going to kill a lot of custom to Madford then?

Pets at Home are moving their headquarters from Stoke to Stafford on the Redhill site. A new roundabout is proposed on the A34 to accommodate the increased traffic. Should be fun.

You're joking, right?? This is going to cause serious amounts of disruption/delays on the A34 whilst this is built. Are there any planning diagrams/ artists impressions anywhere??

Anyone noticed the left hand lane of the Gaolgate roundabout has been closed, also on the approach to the Sainsbury's puffin lights both sides of the road? Apparently, this is to allow for "social distancing". I never see crowds people walk from the roundabout up towards or away from Sainsbury's?? Most folk would cut down the old alleyway of the Sheridan Centre, past the closed down Argos & past Iceland. Can't see the point in this, other than causing further traffic delays all the way round the roundabout??

Those cones do, at least, push the traffic from Chell Road out and reduce the spray from the permanent flood that's been there for about a decade now.

The social distancing barriers have been there for a few weeks now as well as elsewhere around town.

I agree they are in places where there aren't high densities of pedestrian flows which could be easily managed by making the paths one way on either side of the road.

Having said that I haven't noticed very much delay to the traffic flow despite the single lanes.

I go past there most days, and they've never held me up...

@Len's Lens I believe there are some near Primark too

We might as well start getting used to some difficulties travelling along Chell Road - that will be the permanent situation once the Western Access Route is available for use.

I once had a stint testing software at Pets At Homes head office, near Manchester. Great place it was, treated their employees very well. The main positive was people could and did bring their pets into work, it was an absolute joy to look up from my laptop and see a dog staring at me.
This consultation is for a distribution depot. Ideally located and hopefully generate new jobs.

I read an article that said the HQ would move there by 2024. Often see some interesting jobs pop up for them.

why do the pets at home development require its own roundabout when access to the a34 could be provided via Redhill business park?

The road from Acton Gate through to Acton Trussell (Mill Lane) will be closed for three weeks from 13th September.
Thanks @Carole

Did I read somewhere that there's roadworks on the island by Silkmore lane/lichfield rd junction at the moment ? (Will plan a different route back home if so )

Different "parks", owned by different commercial interests?

"You want to build a competing "park" next to my "park", then you can build your own entrance! You're not using mine."..?

Perhaps..?

You could well be right, ransom strips. I am aware of a landowner retaining a very narrow strip of land between two existing business parks and then attempting to sell it at well over the odds, when the two sites wanted to connect. Not too difficulat to spot two roads extending from such sites, that don't quite meet.
