My uncle had a friend, Captain FitzPatrick, who owned a few of the castles of that style around the area, I 'think' that was one of his.I suspect you got planning permission for something like that by having a bigger battle axe than the next guy.
Possibly some sort of water-works from the WW1 encampment? Also found this on the way down to the lake. There is a small steam running into it and it’s about 30m above the level of the lake.
Any ideas what it is?

^ Yes, my understanding is that it was the cesspit for the Brocton Camp.

I thought that's where the photo was taken from. From just lower down from the camp . ( I've walked over a path/ bridge like thing looking like that many times over the years , by the Brocton Pool/ bird hide???)Wasn't the camp on the opposite side of the valley as per the red markings on this map? Meaning that an element of uphill shit shovelling would be involved.
It looks like the yellow/orange rectangle at the bottom left is the structure I saw.

Yes. Looking elsewhere when actually in Hixon, is usually for the best.I went for a walk along the lanes around Hixon today with a friend who lives there.
I hadn't realised how elevated Hixon was and we enjoyed some lovely views across the fields towards Uttoxeter in one direction, Rugeley in another and towards Weston bank on the way back.
