Ducks...

It might be stating the obvious, but shortly after all the ducklings have hatched, they'll be marched (walked) to the water. This is probably the most dangerous time for them as, they will cross roads, oblivious to the traffic.

Time to order a few signs:

That should be interesting. Fortunately there's not too many roads between us and the canal. It's quite quiet if they pick their moment.

I'm slowly becoming the "Birdman of Weeping Cross". A few years ago a pair of blackbirds nested in front of our kitchen window on a recess in a brick wall behind some foliage. It was a bit precarious - not the best place to build a nest. Anyway, we came down one morning to find the nest on the floor and 4 chicks scattered nearby, unable to move. I just put the nest back where it was and put the chicks back in as best I could - not the easiest job as they're all legs and wings. Anyway, I couldn't have done too bad a job as a few weeks later we watched all four chicks "fly the nest", dashing across the patio to the bushes in the garden.

I think the ducks may have moved on to your garden after they rejected ours. We're on Yelverton Avenue and we saw a couple of ducks waddling across the front garden at the weekend. They were inspecting the flowerbed. It obviously didn't meet their high standards.
Did they go swanning off?

Could be, @Apricot . I only ever see them during the evening so have no idea what they do the rest of the day. And it's only a short walk across Yelverton field, avoiding any dogs.

As someone once said "We are a grandmother".

I wasn't around at the time but mum and 12 or 13 ducklings were seen in next door's garden this morning before waddling back across our drives to their nest.
I was looking out for your duck family whilst walking down Falmouth and nearby roads yesterday. Lots of dogs around at the time, so they must have been hiding .

They're keeping their heads down. I've still not seen them, but the camera is on the front window sill in case they break cover.

It appears the bird (and her ducklings) has flown - or at least waddled off. There'd been no sign of anything since Monday so I checked yesterday evening and all I could see was a load of feathers. This was taken today after I'd had more of a poke around. I just hope they've managed to get to the canal or the river OK.

Just come to this, when a firefighter we got a call to ducklings on the road! Were on Wolverhampton Rd roundabout, rear of the old library. Is it The Green? Mother was trying to heard them down to the river. New what sort of incident we were going to and one of the lads had a large landing net at work, had been fishing! So put it in the back of the cab thinking it might prove useful. When we arrived mum was attempting to get across the road to The Sun side & down to the river. Car confusion. Young PCSO in attendance. We found a use for the plastic police man. Stop the Traffic,! ALL lanes! I scooped up the kids, a squaking mum followed down to the river, job done, only took a few minutes! We kept a landing net at the station from then on! ;)
