More housing, who needs the countryside anyway ?

Enjoying a drop of red.
You do raise a very good point.
But I do think that perhaps one of the reasons that we don’t have enough people training or wanting to be doctors is that they were/are massively over stretched.
Not enough surgeries built, too few doctors stretched to capacity.

Build more and more surgeries, spread the load, make the job more respectable/attractive again.

I might be accused of simplifying the issue but often enough the simplest option is the one most often overlooked.
Must have missed this.

Whilst I agree with you up to a point, there does come a time when people need to realise that the salaries they earn should reflect to a great extent their skills, but also the amount of work and responsibility they must be prepared to commit to. An experienced GP earns a significant amount of money from the NHS, as well as having the opportunity to do private work.

Most of their previously routine tasks such as answering the phone, taking blood tests, being on call outside of normal hours etc have been, rightly taken off them. However, still there is a demand to reduce the workload further but not the remuneration.

That's not the way it works for most of us.

Therefore, the demand created by all these overstretched GPs quitting to do whatever, is made up of foreign nations. Take away free movement, which Brexit surely will and the supply of people willing to do the job from Europe being drastically reduced is going to be significant.

And (most) people pay to see their GP unlike here (either directly or through VHI right?)
Children, pensioners and benefit recipients don't. To some extent, others can self-select their position in the system. It does probably reduce the number of visits by the general adult population sector, but I wouldn't think would be a huge difference.

That’s interesting, as suggests implementing a charge would be unlikely to reduce demand
Paying visible charges has two general effects, reducing trivial visits and raising expectations of the results from those visits that do happen. The 'habitual patient' might be unlikely to reduce their demand much, but just moan more about things.

There is no obligation for those outside the Medical Card parameters to have personal health insurance, but, for serious illnesses, it makes little difference. It can be a bit of a gamble, but you do have the choice.

It's probably an out of date question, I've been out of the town for 30 years now … but where are they all going to work ?

Mostly they won't work in Stafford, but close links to the M6 and the A50 means pretty much anywhere

Just had a notification about the Partridge Walk new houses.

Interesting description of Stafford and surrounding areas???

With Theo's local knowledge I think she's got a new job as scriptwriter at Bovis 🤣

Leisurely walk to Great Bridgeford, why?

Great Bridgeford shopping area, where is this?

Hixon High Street, what's there apart from the Bank House?

Overlooking plenty of green space? Well at least until they build the next 50 new houses.

Sights of Stafford castle, which are?

Bustling town of Stafford? I think this is probably just a typo and should be busking town of Stafford 🤣
