Once inside any of the supermarkets the 2m rule goes out of the window.
No surprise really as most are then concentrating on their shopping and trying to avoid all the supermarkets own staff going the wrong way (according to the laid down arrows) with their home shopping trolleys who do not seem (for the most part) to be bothered to much about the separation.

Tesco OAP etc hour (9am-10am) has no control and the line of people has all ages in it, unfair as some were clearly having difficulty standing/shuffling in the long queue on Friday morning.

Yeah I was in there today and it was utter chaos. It doesn’t help that the arrows are pretty poorly laid out though, regularly only at the end you’re meant to start from and black isn’t exactly an eye catching colour...

''stay local and use open spaces near to your home where possible – do not travel unnecessarily''

You mean cycle around your garden for 20k?

The Chase and back is keeping local if that is your usual cycling distance and probably less populated and less likely to come within 2m of people compared to riding around Stafford area itself.

I'm wonder if he actually used the canal path he saw all the families on and managed to keep 2m apart?
Yes, it's a bit difficult to keep 2m apart on a tow path - one reason we've not walked that way despite the canal being only a stone's throw away from where we live on Weeping Cross.

ETA Now's not a good time to risk having to go to hospital. Mountain biking down 1:1 slopes on Cannock Chase maybe one's way of getting exercise, but it further risks your health and diverts the limited NHS resources if you end up in hospital.

The guidelines are not to drive to exercise, I've hardly used my car in 2 weeks. And nope, I came a lot closer then 2m on the towpath, but so did everyone using it regardless of if they were on a bike. As long as you aren't coughing there is little chance of spreading something cycling past someone at 15km/hr as there is no chance of physical contact, much more likely to pass it on touching something in the supermarket yet everyone still shops. Am I supposed to stop running too, as other people use the pavement? Crap, I need to stop walking as well! You can't always be 2m from people, pavements aren't that wide, you just need to not be stupid.

Was really nice to have milford common to ourselves, good to see all the car parks have blocked entrances now. Also great to see so many other cyclists out, including lots of families, it's great to see so much fewer cars about. Did see quite a few with decent bikes coming off the chase, is birches valley still closed?

We weren't mountain biking, we have road bikes. Just taking the safest routes, as unfortunately the lack of cars seems to have brought out some right idiots. The cars I have seen seem to alternate between driving miss daisy and fast and furious :(

I've just been reading a number of reports of 5G masts being attacked because some idiots think there is a link between 5G rollout and the spread of Coronavirus.

One article linked 3G to SARS, 4G to Swine flu and 5G to Coronavirus, wtf???

I've also heard a lot about this, sadly from a very good childhood friend....

I heard one specifically blame huawei, as their 5g kit comes from China so its obviously linked. I seriously worry about the human race sometimes.

Not sure of the relevance of how long it takes to do the ride to be honest.

No mention is given to how long you can exercise for. But Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove has said: "I would have thought for most people a walk of up to an hour, a run of 30 minutes or a cycle ride of between that, depending on their level of fitness, is appropriate."

But you are ignoring all of the advice being given at the moment. You are also coming across as one of the selfish idiots that spent their day in the London park yesterday sunbathing etc with you saying having Milford Common to yourself. We would all like to have Milford Common to ourselves but most of us are following advice, staying at home, exercising responsibly for about an hour a day, thinking of the NHS staff etc...

According to strava I was out for 1 hour 18 minutes, but as stated above much less likely to come into contact with people than someone shopping. There is no limit on exercise other than once a day, just a vague" I would have thought", and until there is i'll use my own judgement. You spend more time in close proximity walking past someone than cycling.

So I assume from your words here that you are on full lock down, other than a gove timed walk once a day where you cross the street every time you meet a pedestrian coming the other way?

Anyway, the sun is out so I'm going for a run. I plan on doing about 8k today, is that permissable?

Edit: taken from the same article as your quite:

Gatherings of more than two in parks and public spaces have been banned (ruling out most team sports)

There were 2 of us, from the same household, so permitted?

So cycle to milford yourself, just be back within the hour?

I'd guessed you weren't mountain biking. 20k along the trails of Cannock Chase is one thing, but I wouldn't fancy riding that distance across town on a mountain bike.

I was just using mountain biking as an example of doing an unnecessarily risky form of exercise. I could just as easily have used parkour.

Anyway, does anyone have any thoughts on kite flying? It's fairly energetic so I could use the exercise excuse, and is fairly solitary. Not sure the police would approve though. I have visions of a police helicopter with a loudhailer telling me to pack it in.

I once cycled to Wales on a mountain bike with full camping gear, nearly killed me! In fact my hamstrings were badly damaged, hence all the running injuries I keep picking up although tbf I only started running about easter last year and I don't stretch enough. Cycling is my relaxing exercise :)

Not sure on the kite flying, I guess like you say its solitary? Depends where you go, and if you drive to get there I guess.
