Amongst rumour and hysteria facts are few and far between, however, some things not yet absolutely disproved include:

A 14 day incubation period is insufficient

The virus was designed in a lab

The virus was released deliberately to prevent civil unrest

Africa may have cases but lacks testing facilities

The virus can be caught multiple times

The virus can caught from toilet door handles

The virus can be asymptomatic in people

Some people who do not test positive for the virus maybe infectious

It seems the more the world finds out about the virus the less it knows

Coronavirus is actually part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's cunning plan
    1. Sign Ighalo from China.
    2. Plague of coronavirus spreads through the Norhwest.
    3. All further premier league matches are cancelled.
    4. Scousers fail to win the Premiership once again.

Am I alone in thinking that there is possibly a massive over reaction going on?

81% of people that catch it only get mild symptoms, most recover quickly and those that die are either elderly or already have underlying medical conditions.
So far about 82,000 have become ill and about 2800 have died.

To put this into perspective the flu affects 42 million each year, 647,000 will be hospitalised and 61,000 die.

So 61,000 people die of flu every year... that’s 168 every single day.

So in the time since January when 2800 people have died of Coronavirus approx 8000 will have died from the flu.

We don’t close schools and shut down cities for flu so why this?

Am I missing something here and if so please enlighten me.

I think the frighteners are about how contagious it is. But you're right, the statistics suggest it isn't as bad as SARS .. or perish the thought, Ebola. Not that that is much consolation to those who have lost someone.

I had much sympathy for those people on the cruise ship, you do not want to be on one of those with a contagious disease. Closed environment, re-circulated ventilation, living on top of each other ....

but that’s the point I’m making.
It’s not as contagious as flu and it’s not as deadly as flu.

    What's missing is facts, information

    See my list

Anything China has offered in terms of statistics must be ignored. They are covering up people being incinerated alive. Any death to infection ratios supplied from China are totally unreliable

    See the first two posts

Even the British Government and all it's news media fail when it comes to simple maths and statistics

    See above

    See above the above

    And beyond

We cannot forcast this virus particularly if
    It's a manufactured biochemical weapon

    Do not be complacent

Where is your evidence for any of this?

The actual situation is way beyond SARS and MERS combined.

For most of us, it'll be no worse than a proper flu.

But a 2% death rate doesn't sound so good if I was to suggest that you go and stand with those 49 people over there whilst I shoot one of you at random.

If you are 'elderly' or immune-compromised, then your susceptibility is greatly increased. The death rate for them will be well above 2%.

Even if this is contained, as SARS and MERS were, it is a good practice run for the eventually inevitable 'real one'.

If it gets going properly, it will increase death rates in many other unrelated conditions, as facilities are overwhelmed.

If it is contained, it may be perceived as the Y2K computer system problem often is, as a non-event, just because it was contained...

Ideas that it’s a weapon are ridiculous. Convenient for China? Absolutely. Those HK protests disappeared very quickly didn’t they? And it’s been a great opportunity for them to control the population, which they get off on.

Most likely the death rate is heavily skewed because of China’s horrendous conditions (and it wouldn’t surprise me if they were quite selective in who they treated)

The main issue seems to be that it’s a lot more contagious than most Coronas.

The death rate percentage from the common flu is higher, so if you were to suggest the same thing above, you’d be shooting more people, but there’s no panic over normal flu.

    Please see the article below.

I can't buy into the 'weapon' idea. For sure biological weapons exist, but if China were to have launched this 'weapon' to cure their Hong Kong problem it seems to me that would be a Pyrrhic victory given the damage it's doing to their economy.

They'd be far better off driving a couple of hundred tanks across the border and telling the rest of the world it's none of their business so STFU.

Or tell the west they have oil, we'd liberate the shit out of them then bugger off when we realise it's not profitable.
