Joined today. I have been in the Wagon and Horses for a meal twice in the last week. Gave them a second chance as they have only just reopened, If they want to stay open they will have to improve, meal not really appetising. They run out of vegetables and we had to wait
for more the roast spuds when we got them looked as if they were boiled and then deep fried. No beer licence they said untill at least christmas so only selling bottled and cans. Not doing coffee. Not very comfortable surroundings and no where to sit and relax after. But I am sure they will get sorted.
A few of us almost went there on Thursday afternoon, but as it was such a gorgeous day we couldn't justify sitting inside a pub eating a carvery. We ended up going to Apres...which, considering your post, was a bloody good idea! And hi, Annon.

I too have visited the Waggon, first couple of weeks you could allow for the odd mis-hap but no coffee or tea afterwards makes it a no-no for the designated drivers amongst us. Having read through the other posts that this landlord isn't a newbie to the licensed trade or to the odds and sods in town, it makes you wonder did he do his homework, something else that bothered me on the second visit - well you have to go twice just to make sure eh! the sweets noted were not all avaliable either, I felt sorry for the young ' glasgie' lady who was doing all the hard work trying to keep an eye on things at the servery, attend to the bar and doing the cleaning up. As the afternoon moved on her accent became more strained and a wee tad incomprehensible even to half a jock like me!

It's crazy when these places open having had money spent on them as a refurb, only for the owners not to spend a decent amount of money on getting people in the place and making them want to come back. Madness...and all too common.

Defo...I've never been overly disappointed with the Raddy. That is exactly the worry we had before it turned out to be a scorcher, thus diverting us to Apres; on a Thursday afternoon, would they expect anyone to arrive for a carvery and therefore have stuff prepared, and if they do, will it have been reheated and sitting around for ages?

From what you've said, shazbo, I think i'll avoid going there at all.

Have you see this weeks Stafford Post....

There's a sponsored ghost busters night on in the Waggon on July 10th Complete with a carvery meal and first drink all for a tenner, plus whatever sponsors you can round up - fancy dress optional, bet all the old white cotton sheets that gran / mum has in the airing cupboard will see daylight again.

Rita the organiser is going as the grey lady, besides ringing her for a sponsor packs, a little bird tells me they can be asked for or picked up at the Community Resource Centre on Greyfriars Parade - (the shops)

Might be worth going.......... least the spooks can't be worse than anything else in there

By the way talking of carvery's have you tried the one at Festival Park Stoke? If you take the A500 from Hanford to Festival Park A53, bear left just before the Cobridge flyover head as if you are heading for Toys R Us etc, but at the round about bear 1st left - Odeon side and carry straight on you come to the back of the Toby Inn - have a choice eat in or out in the Black Prince boatyard. Can thoroughly recommend it come rain hail or sunshine, opens at 12.noon. Avoid Sundays - stokies day out!
