Train Named in memory of the Hixon rail accident.

A tragic consequence of introducing something new without properly informing those who were expected to use it. The book 'The Hixon Railway Disaster' by Richard Westwood is a sobering read. BR's plans for AHB Level Crossings were downright lethal. It took Hixon to see improvements made that...

    New "Micropub".

The Whippet in Lichfield is superb. All it sells is real ale and cider. No lager rubbish. The formula is simple, small premises so low overheads, no being tied to a pubco or brewery, no walls full of tellies and fruit machines. Good luck to them.

Examples of poor driving you have witnessed!

Which is exactly how it should be done. Instead of what some idiots do and sit in the lane remaining open for miles, then try to obstruct anyone from merging in from the empty, available lane prior to the converging point!!

End of an era at Stafford Station

Stafford's last two Signal Boxes, Stafford Number 4 and Stafford Number 5, signal their last trains tomorrow evening. They are two of the largest and most impressive boxes still in use. No4 has 130 levers and No5 has 150. . No5 is the older of the two, dating from 1952. No4 is a 1962 box, both...

    The Lamb Inn, Stafford

No smell in there. It was very clean. In fact that pong was sorted out a while ago.

    The Lamb Inn, Stafford

Ive always liked the Lamb, nice bunch of regulars in the day and handy for the bus stops. I called in there on Friday night (most of the other pubs were full of the once a year drinking club) The new people seemed friendly enough and had a decent pint on, more ales to follow. Good luck to them.

railway site by wolverhampton road bridge

The site is the base for the Stafford Resignalling project. This will see the Signalboxes at Stafford Station close next year and the area will be controlled from the new Rail Operating Centre at Rugby. The Stafford Signalboxes are very impressive examples. Stafford No5 has 150 levers, not...

    First car ?

Mini Van now? 3000 quid upwards for a good one... My first car when I was 17? Triumph Dolomite 1850HL, still one of the best cars Ive owned. Back in the 80s us young drivers could still insure cars like that. Now they cant insure anything with more power than a fart.

Ye Olde Rose and Crown - Pub of the Month

Well deserved. One of the best pubs in the whole of Staffordshire.

Pubs in the north end of Stafford. What's happened?

I have always found the beer in the Joiners Arms to be excellent. The Kings Arms is also a great real ale pub, the Tap @ Spile usually has a decent draught on. The Greyhound's ales are faultless as a rule.

Bad accident by Tesco Lights - Wed 31st Oct 2012

No time limit at the Red Lion either, unlike on the council carparks.... Sadly there are still a few who park on there and are too tight to pay, they tend to find themselves blocked in.

Any history on this old place - next to gymophobics

I noticed that VP a few days ago, sadly Ive already got too many projects waiting... Always liked the BMC 1100/1300, they were like a bigger Mini with just as good roadholding. Almost perfection if they didnt have so many rust traps!

Still rather have the 1100 though! The Saab would have been quite unusual back then.

That looks like a Saab 99 passing the 1100, so must be later than 1968.
