God this thread could be a longest ever if everyone contributes. The 80's was a bit of an explosion in terms of music , I'll start with some of my favourites (in no particular order):

Madness
Eurythmics
Ultravox
Dire Straits
Level 42
Guns n' Roses
Fleetwood Mac
AC/DC
Queen
Beastie Boys
Michael Jackson
Chris Rea
Ian Dury and the Blockheads
Cheap trick
Aerosmith
Bon Jovi
De La Soul
Frankie Goes to Hollywood
Bowie
Depeche Mode
Isaac Hayes
The Jam

There must be 1000s more but thats a start!

Oh yes "silk & Steel" that was my 1st ever album I brought (from good old Woolies)

Hangin tough was actually released in 1988/89 with step by step being their follow up album in 1990/91 unfortunately I was too young to go to any of their concerts :( so I envy you :)

Bon Jovi is as heavy as I got haha, still have "Slippery when Wet" on good old cassette (it's mint cause I don;t own a cassette player any longer) but have always kept it as my dad got it me whilst holidaying in America, it's one of my sentimental possessions :)

I stand corrected. It was a bloody long time ago that's for sure, I queued from 8am on a Sat morn for the Step by Step album, I remember I was around 17/18 my brother was 2 and he'd sing 'Hangin Tough' all the live long day which was cool until we went into Mikes Records looking for Skid Row albums...then it was very uncool.

I was a big fan of The Cult.

She Sells Sanctuary is a fantastic song.

This is not a love song by Public Image Ltd.

The Specials.

The Beat

UK Subs

Crass

The Adicts

and of course Eighties by Killing Joke.

Not really a great fan of the "80's" as a whole but there were pockets of very interesting stuff amongst the pap.

I still have a copy of the "Mobil Oil Chartfile" in my car.

Three tracks - the same three tracks on each side.

Maaaaan, that had some ace tunes on it! So ace I can't remember what they are.

But then, my car features an Ultravox tape, a ZZ Top tape and a Marillion tape.

People keep telling me about these new kind of "round tapes" that are all shiny - personally, I don't trust them and am considering buying an 8-track player with a cassette adaptor.

But yes, 80s music and all that - marvellous stuff.

Nobody has mentioned the Damned - so I will. And Devo, 3 Mustaphas 3, Anti-Nowhere League, Propaganda, etc.

Kraftwerk! I thought about putting them, but decided that I might just look foolish. There's a good bit of La Dusseldorf on youtube, you know. Top boys.

Bill Bailey is cool i dont think anyone can argue with that.

So Bill Bailey performing with Krafwerk automatically makes them cool.
