i've seen a few people say that they will be glad to see the back of 2015 - here, facebook, IRL, etc.. more so than most years, i'd say.. so i thought i'd do a quick poll, just for shits 'n' giggles..

so, has 2015 been good or bad for you? i have deliberately restricted the poll to 2 answers, so there is no "bit of both" option - if you are in that camp, look at the big picture and think "all things considered, has it been more 'bad' or 'good'?" so if you wrecked your car, but you won the lottery, one would think that evened out and put you in the "good" camp, for example..

I've voted good. Although my main line of work has massively declined, this has forced me to start up something else which is looking like it may make me more money than I've ever earned.
There's plenty of bad points for me about 2015 - but my life motto is always to focus on the positives anyway. There's too much negativity in this world. :)

I put "good" but it's only just the "good" side,
and I think that's cos I'm a glass half full sort of bloke.

Its been an exceptional year. In a job i love, married to the woman i love and a fantastic little dog. My daughter will be giving me a grandchild in 2016 and my sister survived cancer. Got to do some amazing things, met some exceptional people. A great year.

But then I would rather have a glass that is only half empty rather than one that is only half full. OK so I don't think the same way as other people about it.

That is interesting.

May I ask why exactly that you would rather be half empty than half full?

Because it is ONLY half empty - in other words you have only lost half of it, where as if it is ONLY half full you are missing half of it.

I like your thinking!
What about half empty you've enjoyed drinking half of it and can go and get another and its not your round, half full you need to go to the bar and request a top up!

No thats not right.

If you are still half full you are still "half full" and you still feel fullish so not even thinking of anything else.

You dont need a top up until you reach the point where you feel "half empty"

Which is slightly below the line of half full.

Or sort of, thereabouts :q::aboot:

But "only" reverses the complete sense of the sentence. "Half empty" bad, "only half empty" good.

The operative is definitely 'only', but it really only... takes it to one remove beyond what it already is -

Half empty = :( (could be more full)
Half full = :) (could be more empty)

'Only' only qualifies that which follows -

Only half empty = :) (could be more empty)
Only half full = :( (could be more full)

More to the point, is that wine in the glass? And can i have some more?

Many family and friends would say it had been a bad year for us. There have been plenty of job and financial stress, family illness , my illness and operation, children concerns, grief for the Unknown life saver. However I have put good. I'm alive, the children have their mom, my husband isn't a widowed single dad, my family and friends still have me (there may be times they question how good that is)! I have learnt so much and met some incredible people and been given the opportunity to see life differently...that's damn good!
