Dating in the 21st Century seems to be so much different than in previous times. There are many ways to meet people, but in our time poor society, organising dating around our busy schedules can be a chore. Finding the time to find your potential soul mate can be difficult.
Dating has evolved over the years to accommodate the fast paced, high energy lifestyles and to provide possible solutions to peoples many different needs and quirks. Compared with the 20th Century, the more innovative dating methods used today i.e. speed dating and online dating, appear to be more socially acceptable, they both reduce the aount of time that is needed to devote to dating, which is key in today's society. With time limits placed in our normal lives by increasing working hours, time spent in the gym or sat in traffic, or carrying out essential mundane chores, there is less time available to invest in finding a date, to get around the limitations of time, 21st century daters put their social life on the fast track. After all, in these times, we can access a supermarket when we want it, we can become some sort of medical personnel when diagnosing illness and seeking cures cutting out the need to visit the doctor, we reduce time spent dealing with financial issues by using online or telephone banking rather than visit a bank, so why shouldn't we put our social life on the fast track as well?
Has the 21st Century damaged dating as it was known in the old fashioned sense? Do we single people expect love and dating to happen instantly in the same fashion with everything else?
What happened to 20th Century dating where you could be waiting days for him to call your phone (the old fashioned landline) after you gave him your number? Has it saved the stresses and strains of sitting by the phone, only to miss the call when you pop to the shop and him leaving an awkward message on your answering phone, or god forbid, with your parents? Or now, when we meet somebody, do we expect a text message minutes after meeting someone on our mobile and then get disappointed if we hear nothing until days later? Has the days and rules of old fashioned courtship disappeared
