1-0 up late on 1st half, happy days, with our new captain in his forth game with the armband Nick Wellecomme scoring the goal.
We faced a team in 2nd pushing for promotion, and in the 2nd half they came out and attacked us, a penalty was conceded for an apparent hand ball, was at the other end of the ground, but a Southport fan said it wasn't a penalty. 1-1.
Stafford tired and for some reason manager Chris Brindley decided to make no substitutions. The referee then gave a freekick for a "foul" by our striker in their half after 3 mins of added time had been put up, this allowed Southport to push 10 men into our area, and within a minute they'd made it 2-1, in the 93rd minute and 52 seconds.
Gutting way to lose it to a team right up there in second place, but we faced a constant battle with a referee from mersyside, whose decisions were somewhat contraversial - and he recieved a round of applause by the Southport fans as he entered the social club.
A few weeks ago Stafford would be trying to win a point, having just lost out to one of the best teams in the league it's fair to say we've come a long way
