When I go to shut down my pc I get this message:

Unhandled exception has occured in your application, if you click continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue, if you click quit, the application will close immediately.

Could not load file or assembly 'system.data.sqlservice, version - 3.5.1.0, culture = neutral, publickeytoken = 89845dcd8080cc91' or one of it's dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

Then the end program - autostartupserv screen comes up asking me if I want to end the program now which I do and then about 50% of the time it shuts down and then re-starts, this is when my technical ability excels and I pull the plug out of the wall. I know it's not life threatening but it's bloody annoying, any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Which version of windows are you using (2000, xp, vista, 7) ?

I'm not too sure on this one, perhaps one of our other resident techies can help however if i know the windows type i can do some informed googling for you

No worries mate, give me a few minutes.

I'll tell you know though to prevent getting your hopes up this may require a trip to the (lowest bidding) computer hospital for a rebuild.

Sounds like you may have photo Fun studio installed which has gone corrupt. If so and you don't need it you could try uninstalling that.
Also, try clicking on START, RUN then type msconfig and hit enter. In the window that appears click on the Startup tab, then look if you can find autostartupserv in the list... if it is then un-tick it, apply changes and reboot your PC. If you get the message upon restarting "you have made changes to system settings blah blah blah", then tick the box not to show the message again and click OK.

Let us know how it develops. I'm quiet at this end if you think you need a complete Windows re-install I'll do it at last years price (£20)

Sorry I've been a while, the leader of the opposition wanted a few chores doing.

I have got photo fun studio installed (but I didn't do it, honest guv) which I found in the startup menu but I couldn't find autostartupserv in the list so I didn't untick anything and left well alone. I get very jittery when these bleedin tick box menu's pop up, many moons ago I completley screwed up my pc by mucking about with them.

well if on msconfig you don't use applications you know about in the list but do not use them when you first turn on your computer untick them, if you not far off from me i could help you clear out msconfig for free an see how it goes then an then if you do need a reinstall then WMR got the quote in first so i would hand you over to my good friend WMR

don't be scared of msconfig mitch. As long as you only untick things for programs that you know damn well you don't ever use, then it can't do any harm.
I thought it sounded like photo fun studio. If you dunna use it, go into control panel - add/remove programs and get rid of it. You'll probably find your errors will dissapear with it. It's quite a common problem generated by this program.

gdavies or myself are on hand if you hit problems, but you should be good to do the above.

Thanks all, I'll give it a bash next time I start up and report back, the leader of the opposition is now taking me out for a couple of pints of Guinness so I've obviously ticked one box correctly.
