A General Film Thread

As we are on the topic of films today, does anyone have any recommendations? My boyfriend and I have been getting into the habit of renting films every other night or so and we're running out of things we can find that we think we might want to watch!

The Departed
Little Miss Sunshine
Children of Men
Severance (worth a watch once, quite amusing)
The Host
Thank You for Smoking
A Scanner Darkly

That's brilliant thanks. Is Severance a very gory horror or am I thinking of something else? Have seen Little Miss Sunshine twice, it's one of my favourite films.

A bit gory, has that annoying pillock out of The Football Factory in it. Danny Dyer.

Don't ever, ever rent 'Churchill: the Hollywood Years'. Me and Panders rented it once thinking it would make for an evening of light, easy watching and had to turn it off . Awful.

Oh must not forget Volver, absolutely superb.
I've been meaning to watch that, but I thought it might be a sort of chick flick type thing which I've been trying to avoid since only one of us would be enjoying that.
Watched 'About Schmidt' the other day, I hadn't realised how brilliant Jack Nicholson is. It was a great film but he was so good in it that I found it very difficult to watch.

I just looked this up on IMDB and the tagline is 'History... Hollywood style!'. No wonder you had to turn it off.

It was actually quite a good idea, in a low-brow throw-away comedy type of way, but they seem to have got the team behind Hi-De-Hi (the cleaning team, that is) to write it.

Van Wilder was on tv again the other day.. despite having seen it 3 times already, i watched it again - i'd forgotten how funny it is! and getting "Dick" the principal from The Breakfast Club to play the antagonist teacher was a great touch :)

Pan's Labyrinth, simply splendid, but don't know if its available on DVD yet! So ...
Eraserhead or Plan 9 from Outer Space, or Mullholand Drive, or ...

Don't know if you are aware of this site, you can watch loads of videos online and cartoons for free. I watched Blood Diamond the other day followed by a dessert of Roger Ramjet (Blam!).
The site is http://www.peekvid.com

I was sat chatting with a friend the other day and he was appalled at the lack the 'classic' films I have seen..

On our list for me to watch was:

Silence Of The Lambs
The Lost Boys
Any LOTR film

So, I put it for us to devise a Stafford Forum, Classic Films list, as I would be interested to see what everyone's like and hates are

yeah, there are a remarkable number of "classics" i've never seen.. i haven't seen any of the godfathers, any of the goodfellas, etc.. i very rarely make the time to sit down with a film, tbh :(

maybe we should organise a little film night at mine/yours, slainte?
