I once spent a very entertaining half hour giving helpful suggestions to someone trying to get the cassette out of a Commodore Pet. Having typed 'eject cassette' and seeing nothing happen we suggested that he try various word-orders and different spellings ( you know what Americans can be like ). Eventually he gave in, so we lifted the lid and took the tape out. He was unimpressed. But it didn't stop him getting the legs of his compass measured to make sure they were the same after we told him that if they weren't identical he would be drawing ellipses. Things were much simpler then.

When Jay (my housemate) was last working on a building site they kept sending the juniors for sky hooks, bubbles for spitit levels and such like, the old ones are always the best!

We also convinced him that the coal from Hem Heath was white and only turned black when it was exposed to the atmosphere, thus causing it to oxidize. It was therefore the only pit in the whole of the NCB where the underground workers were issued with sunglasses to cope with the glare. He may still believe this.
