A Plea To Bar Staff

I generally drink real ale when I'm out and about , but my wife drinks spirits. And the point of this thread?

She is fed up with being served spirits in what is best described as a "man's half pint glass".

So landlords of Stafford, please buy some straight half glasses. They are not that expensive.

I could name and shame the worst offenders. Should I?

First rule of pubs. Serve a drink at the correct temperature, in a clean and appropriate vessel. If you can't do that you shouldn't be trading and deserve to go out of business.

Recently I've handed drinks back due to the stae of the glasses. It doesn't take much to check the glasses. On the continent they pride themselves on polished glasses. The art of being a bar person is being sadly lost.

Minimum wage job though, innit. Also part time, you're better off on the dole* unless you're doing it to fund studies. People rarely take pride in these jobs, as any old job pays the same. If you want your staff to give a ****, give them a reason to.

* I do not condone this, I hate people who think like this, but it is a fact of life that part time minimum wage employment pays less than benefits for most single people.

I despise bars where, instead of pouring a pint properly, they just let the beer overflow and serve you a wet glass.

I believe that behaviour to be a criminal offence in Ireland.

what annoys me most is pubs in Stafford complaining about trading being hard, but when you go there to give them your custom, they can't get the basics right. Mind you I was in a well established pub in the Radford Bank area of Stafford last night which ran out of gin at 10.15 on a Saturday night.

innit! what's the point of this? it seems to have become more and more prevalent, and more often than not the youngster doing it does so with a look as if to say "yep, notice how i'm pouring your pint properly because it is overflowing and going all over the place :chef:".. since when did this become standard practice??

Lined glasses are still available - but not often used in the licenced trade these days, I understand. They are, though, still to be found at CAMRA festivals and that kind of trendy, beardy event sort of thing..

Brown sandals and white socks?

EDIT: Sorry, got confused, you said beardy AND trendy. I'm used to just beardy, in a UNIX programmer kinda way.
