A34 Northbound at Shire Horse closed - Fri 27th Jan 2012

Just driven past the Shire Horse and the A34 northbound to Stone is closed because of an accident.

Can't see anything so don't know how long it'll be closed.

I was travelling back from a job i'd been to in Stone, and saw the vehicles on the opposite carriageway. Looked like one car was a good few feet in the air on the verge and trapped on something else. It was immediately after a hail storm which didn't seem to hit stafford as much as stone. When i left my customers house there was a good inch of slush on the bank part of the a34 on both sides, so no doubt someone hit it going fast that wasn't expecting there to be the slush!

Hope all involved are okay

I was heading home from Stoke and had just passed Stone fire station as the engine left, I let it past and ended up following it all the way up the A34.

I was slowing anyway as the fire engine was turning through the central reservation but the road just suddenly went from just wet to thick slush. I felt the change in the grip and I was only doing about 30-40mph and I'm on winter tyres! By the time I got there the slush appeared to only be on the top 300 yards or so of the northern side of Yarlet bank so those involved in the accident Northbound wouldn't have seen it until they were over the crest and on top of it. Nasty.

It was strange I must admit..... almost as if a snow cloud had opened up just on that few hundred yards of road. I myself was doing 50 and struggled to keep grip like you say. I must have only been literally 2 minutes in front of you phildo.
