So how easy is it for a novice to create a database in access2007 when he doesn't know anything about interlinking tables & reports etc?

What are you trying to achieve? I know a thing or two about access, but nothing is 'easy' as such.

You can download off the shelf access databases although I have no experience of them.

Nothing is ever easy for sure - what I'm trying to achieve is a way of interlinking customer receipts to inventory & contact list and then possibly sales reports to cutomer payments.......I'm told Access is the best way to do it but have no knowledge of it.

That's great thank you - just let me know I have access 2007 on my laptop - just don't know how to create a new database or change a template!!- I'm sooo far behind the times with this IT stuff

Hmm...Access really isn't "the best" for this...it would be more worth your while learning SQL

As somebody who works with SQL2008r2, SSAS, PerformancePoint and SharePoint, I would use excel. A lot of businesses don't need databases as such and a spreadsheet can deliver what they need. Just google it. http://www.aspfree.com/c/a/BrainDump/Using-Database-Functions-in-Microsoft-Excel/1/
