Adding Belkin F5D7632uk4 to Linksys BEFSR81 network - any advice?

Hi gang,
At some point this weekend, probably this afternoon/evening, I'm going to be trying to graft a Belkin F5D7632uk4 wireless router on the my existing network so I can use my DS for internet things. Anyone got any advice, warnings of stumbling blocks, whatever, that I should be aware of or I should make sure I do? I'm hoping it will be as easy as Cat5ing the Belkin to the Linksys and setting up the addressing properly, but my experience of these things is that it never turns out to be as easy as it would be if I'd designed it. :)

Sounds fairly straight forward enough. The only point I'd make which could just be a one off case I'm not sure, but a friends DS kept disconnecting if using WPA encryption, and we had to stick with 128bit WEP instead. Also if I remember rightly you'll need to enter the connection password on the DS in the ascii format - ie A0 BA 08 7C etc, rather than as a passphrase.

I could be giving invalid info on both counts, but just a couple of points worth checking if you do have difficulties. With regards to the router though it sounds like you know what you're doing. :)

Is this 2 seperate routers? If so, just be sure IPs ranges match and that the wireless does no DHCP shennanigans and you should be OK. If the wireless router has the option to run as an access point choose that, otherwise you may have issues seeing the wireless machines from those on the wired router.

Has the DS got wireless?

Yeah disable DHCP on the wireless router, setto access point mode, open the IP ranges up to the maximum possible.

Can you not abandon the linksys router alltogether and just use the new belkin one?

@wmrcomputers: Yes, the DS only speaks WEP. :( I'm planning to restrict the hackability of the network by setting up MAC filtering so that only the DS can connect to it. :) And it's nice to know somebody's fooled ;) :P

@tekmonkey: Yes, 2 separate routers. Thanks for the tips.

@shoes: It'd be a lot easier to get rid of the old router and replace it, yeah. Trouble is, there aren't enough cat5 ports to plug all the wired kit in, and as far as I can tell the router only speaks DSL internet, not cable. :( :(

Going to have to factory default the router and try again, I think. Bugger. Still, praps it'll work better the second time... :)

Turns out that I need to broadcast the SSID for the sake of certain bits of DS homebrew (not mentioning any DSOrganizes). MAC address filtering it is, then. :)

OK, so it isn't *perfect* - the network configuration isn't what I wanted - but at least it's a proof of concept. Now, will it still work after I bugger about with the MAC filtering? :)

No, it won't. :(
For some reason, as soon as I enable WEP/MAC filtering/any kind of security system, the DS internet connection promptly breaks. Anyone set up a DS internet link before for gaming?
