Aldi welcomed by Stafford residents...

PLANS for a new supermarket in
Stafford have been given
overwhelming support from
residents.
More than 100 people have written
letters of support for the planned
Aldi store in Queensville, with 12
objecting.
The store is proposed for the site
currently occupied by Freedom
Caravans and the Gulf petrol station
in Radford Bank and the plans
include demolition of existing
buildings to be replaced by a
purpose-built supermarket with
parking.
It is estimated the store will create
some 30 full and part-time jobs.
Residents were shown the plans at a
public exhibition at the Wildwood
Community Centre in January.
Nigel and Suzzanne Somers, of
Kestrel Close, Baswich, said: “An Aldi
store would benefit not only this
end of town but would be easier for
the less abled and older population
who have to rely on getting through
the town.”
A company spokesman said at the
time the plans were announced: "We
are excited about the prospect of
coming to Stafford and are keen to
ensure that the views of the local
community are heard before we
proceed."
A new access onto Queensville would
be constructed to an 80-space car
park towards Windsor Road.
A report to the authority’s planning
committee, which meets on
Wednesday to consider the plans,
said: “
The plans were called before the
committee by Councillor Chris Baron
because of concerns about highways.
Among the concerns raised by
objectors are traffic congestion,
parking, road danger, and noise.
The plans are recommended for
approval subject to 38 conditions
including a ban on access to the
shop from Windsor Road, and the
inclusion of bicycle parking.

They'd be better with a mini market in the M&S site. Or the old Co-op building when it becomes available again.

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
More traffic congestion to ensue in an area already very congested. Wonderful.

Anyone driving out of town and turning right into the petrol station now causes hold ups. A supermarket will only make things worse.

Easily solved by causing serious traffic disruption for 6 months by building a new traffic light controlled junction. Sorted!

Or maybe not...

I can hear a groan from anyone who like me lives up Weeping Cross side of town and have to use this road daily.

I gently weep and overwhelming self pity pervades the air.....

Need to get the boats back on the river and start a 'Park & Sail' into Town

Fair play to Aldi for having the public consultation to share information about the development.... Wonder why McDonald's didn't do this :)

I don't think the traffic will be too great but it will look a lot better that it currently does now.... (anyone know why they have shed loads of left hand drive top end BMWs stored there??)

Old friend of mine got an armoured merc off ebay, still had the foam inserts for the surveillance kit in the boot and only one tiny light indicated you'd unlocked it. Also ate fuel, twice the weight of the normal model.
