British is an odd term. I presume that it really applies equally to all the British Isles, including the Irish Republic, but they just leave it to the UK as they don't seem to have a real name for themselves, other than UK Citizens. Much the same applies to Americans - surely a Canadian, Mexican or Bolivian is an American, but the Yanks have usurped the name, as they don't have a proper name for themselves. There was a similar situation with the Soviet Union, when we would have considered them all to be Russian. If the EU was to become the United States of Europe, then, no doubt, the citizens would be Europeans, and the Swiss would just have to accept that the name wasn't available for them any more. Countries should have proper names. South Africa is another duff name - Namibia is clearly in south Africa, but not in South Africa. It needs sorting out, what is the UN doing about it?

Is that like the clayheads getting wound up when we tell them that Trentham Gardens is actually in Stafford?
