Tim Sandy Quote when asked What is the worst thing about Stafford.
'The Stafford general public are unaware that plans have already been passed for the construction of a four-way traffic junction in the Queensway bypass! Sadly, most people will only realise this is happening once the diggers have already got to work. So much for public consultation.'

I think its the road between the roundabout by New Look / Sainsburys / Currys...... and the roundabout by Asda.....

So I assume the junction will be on one side for the St Georges development and on the other side for the multi-storey / shopping centre / offices they are building on the carpark?

A few more pedestrian crossings?
A few more sets of lights?
A ring of roundabouts?
No sign of planning?

We really need a set along that stretch. It's one of the few places where you can't see the next set and it makes one feel so dislocated from reality.

Energy efficiency! I'm sure there are places where we could reduce the amount of street lights due to the illumination from multiple traffic light sets. With what we save we could put up more traffic lights. Win-win.

A few posts under my belt
Am I the only glad as a motorist to see these new lights....... when I leave the Greyfriars area at 4pm on school days - and head towards the A449 - no more taxi drivers cutting me up, although they still dont recognise that RED (the one at the top m8) means STOP not oh bugga it and head straight across, stops the I have one life and I dont care how it ends brigade 'diving' out of the Lammascote Road.

As quoted by a couple of old DJ's - Simon Bates and Mike Read late of Radio1 and Radio 2. Stafford is (was then) the only place they both knew that had traffic lights on an island (A449- A34) People Stafford was the trendsetter back in the 70's.
The rest of the country's planners - followed those traffic light yuppies of Riverway! The M25 bears the proof.

Now if any traffic planning moguls are reading this - how about a nice yellow box between the cross over of Lichfield Road lights to the Newport Road - am buddy sick of having to drive around the bone heads who cross on amber and cause we folk who want to venture the A449 to traverse a chicane of cars who got 'stuck'

While you're at it ...... yellow box Tescos' before another near mishap happens.

AND if the urge to lay sleeping policeman gets ahold of you - this time can you please lay a few along John Amery Drive - and turn the stupid right of ways back to JAD not Hesketh Road and Churchill Way, and lay one fat sod on the bend in Burton Bank Lane instead of a painting the word SLOW - anyone coming from JAD hitting the 25mph mark ends up on the wrong side of the bend unless they know the road very well.

ACTUALLY what would be nice - a 20mph limit from turning off A449 into JAD followed right throught to the Burton Bank Lane junction with A449 ....... one can but hope

MAYBE our erstwhile Manor ward councillors can use the idea ready for the next photo shoot for the Newsletter or local elections, beats using things they did eons ago!

It may well be that they do have some benefit during the school run period - when any sane motorist will remain off the road for fear of excessive blood pressure. The rest of the time they seem just to cause you to stay there whilst they change colour.

Box junctions are all very well, if the majority of drivers actually knew what they meant and obeyed the rules. And if the coppers enforced the rules, instead of ignoring them like everybody else.

Problem isn't just those who go across on amber, there's too many who continue to sail through after the lights have gone red. A red light camera would probably be more effective than a box junction. In fact, it would also be nice to see red light cameras on the lights at either end of Riverway where people seem to be having increasing difficulty with red light = stop. Last night waiting at the Lichfield Road / Riverway lights some twat went sailing through the lights just as the green man came on for pedestrians to cross - and there's quite a gap between lights going red and the green man coming on. Seems to me people are getting more blatant jumping lights and needs to be dealt with.

Needs a bit more than a yellow box!!!

As i'm never in a hurry to get anywhere , stop-lights are a godsend, being able to gawp at and observe my fellow citizens from the comfort of my Toyota is a welcome diversion..........

There's two sets of lights out on Gaol Square. They are currently being replaced by four blokes with sticks - and they seem to be much more responsive to the actual traffic pattern - but possibly too labour-intensive to be used on a 24 hour basis.

Yes i've seen them using old lollipop lady/man signs, Gilbert was i little worse for wear and poked a bit of fun at one of the men.......

It's no wonder you have trouble with workmen - if you're going to call their specialist traffic control equipment 'lady/man signs'....
