Not 100 percent sure but think the gym in Patrick street does boxing/kick and general stuff, believe it also covers street fighting techniques too

It's an old style gym, lots of metal and iron and quite friendly but you wont find too many hi tech bits of kit there

I know of someone who trains in Muaythai, the national sport of Thailand. Sessions locally are held at the Oddfellows hall in Stafford town centre, and Baswich community centre. If anyone is interested call Cheung on 07912319805, and say Jamie sent you :)

Is there not still a martial arts society at Staffs?
I'm with Wormella - there was a VERY active kickboxing scene when I was at Staffs. There was a society and definitely support from Beaconside gym. Suprised if it's all disappeared!

IIRC (which I may well not do), circa 2004 they had a special guest instructor - Kash "The Flash" Gill (http://www.kashtheflash.co.uk/kashgill.htm), but they spent the entire budget on his fees and went bust.
Apparently, there weren't enough people prepared to Flash the Cash at Kash the Flash.

Apologies for dragging this up from the deep depths.... anyone going to Elite 2000?

Quite fancy attending the boxing sessions there, but having never thrown a punch in anger in my life, don't want to walk into a room of Rocky Balboa's on my own.

I walked in to chat about classes there - it didn't seem that intimidating but I couldn't make the class. I've since started Boxercise at the Beaconside Sports Center on a Monday night, which works well for me.

Do tell the details about boxercise Worm, is it intense or more 'fun'? I went to one at Esporta once and they were all serious big hitters..(you can imagine how well I fit in!!!)

It was quite good fun, and really non threatening. Quite a small, mixed class - it involved lots of core strength exercises, reps on fitness balls and steps (and a lot of giggling) and some pair work on hitting / holding up the pads. The partner I ended up with last week was about the same height as you, so you'd be fine. It's only been going a few weeks so it's not very hardcore (yet)

I didn't think it had really done anything but I ached all the way to Zumba last night.

I'll certainly be there next week, 6pm fits nicely with my timetable.

Sounds pretty good! I'd probably have to do some juggling to fit it in, might try it out in a couple of months when things calm down at home!
