Hey all!!

Ok as you were all so helpful with my last question here is another 1!!

I do know a bit about computers and techy stuff but never really touched macs,

I have been offered a macbook (not a pro and not an air) just standard white macbook, at a really good price, I do alot of music editing and im thinking this may be a good idea have had a go with a friends mac and im quite impressed!

I was just wondering if anybody in here has ever worked on one? the macbook Iv been offered is core 2 duo 2.13 (or something close to that) It comes with 2gb ram (ddr2) and a bit of a poor 80gb hd :( .

Can macbooks be upgraded with standard ddr2 laptop memory?? or do you have to buy specific mac ram?? also the hard disk are they just standard laptop sata hard drives??

If anyone has any experience with upgrading macbooks would be great to hear from you??? advice?? ideas?? anything?

As I said im very new to mac hardware, always been pc person.

Thanks peeps!!

Very upgradeable. I had a 2006 Macbook, it was very easy to install 4GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive. You can use a standard laptop hard drive, for example this 500GB one for £43, and you can obtain macbook RAM (I am not sure if it's standard or not quite cheaply also for example this 4GB package at £35

All of these parts you can install yourself, if you get stuck then gdavies is a master with a T drive (i've seen him in action).

I would say that the standard macbooks would only accept a 250gb harddrive due to a larger drive will over time cause them to overheat and the logicboard does not do well then lol, However I have put in larger drives and they have seemed fine, if you use cheap ram and non mac compliant you will find the first time you boot up your system it will be sluggish but they will kick back to normal and quicker after the next reboot. If you do get stuck i can install parts for you and put on the update etc to go along the way for little money.

First time I have been a master with a t drive though shoes thanks lol

Really? I've never know there to be huge temperature differences on larger capacity drives before. ???

I've got a 500gb 7200rpm that runs cooler than it's former 160gb 5400rpm. Are they standard SATA 2.5" drives in macbooks?

they are sata 2.5" drives but the logic board does something so they end up running hotter, I had to partition the last one i put in my old macbook so that it would see it it lasted 12 months before it did in the logic board, Mac compliant would be better but you can use any sata 2.5" drives. I found it weird too but its to do with the way the system uses the drive if you move the macbook in sudden movements it stops the drive to protect it incase of a fall lol

Ahh, I see. Yeah, I'd heard about them having certain "motion" protection measures in place, but I suppose like most things every positive has a negative side to it.

it is good but it does the same with the optical drive the downside burn a disc with it on your knee not a problem, Someone knock on the door do not make a sudden move to get up an answer it or the disc will not burn correctly
