Anyone else hear a siren?

Did anyone else hear what sounded like an air-raid siren in the wee hours of this morning near the Castletown area??

I am pretty sure I wasn't dreaming!

When are the 'wee hours'? I just go when I feel the need and have the opportunity..

I had no idea there were designated times - did it all start when we got the blue bins? This is recycling gone mad.

On a serious note, there is one that goes off around here somewhere every now and again (prospect road area by the allotments) but I've never quite worked out where it's from.
I had one of the old things which I used to power up on a car battery when i was a kid.... it used to annoy the hell out of the neighbours and my dad, and now I know why! :D

I believe there's one at the Prison. I hear it now and then..

I may have once done something with an air-raid siren that I will have to think about for a while before I decide whether to reveal it or not.

Well, Gramaisc, the 'wee' hours normally refer to the hours between 3 am and 6 am ... however, I maybe wrong! As for the 'wee' hours you are referring to then its your choice surely, however, I strongly recommend that you leave your bed!

Thanks wmr, although it sounded quite near .... I thought it was a bunch of chavs d*cking around, I could still be right though!

There's always the chavability!
In fact thinking back I didn't power it off a car battery, it had a handle which had to be manually turned. I wish i still had it now I should imagine it would be worth a few quid :o

Some (many) years back they used to test the air raid siren at the RAF camp, and Lotus had one that went off at 8'oclock every work day, but the only one I've heard lately is the prison one.

You will probably find that it's a local audible alarm activated by a PIR which is fitted to sheds by householders and allotment holders to deter theft, they are often linked to lights to frighten the little darlings off.

Indeed, it's used as a warning for track workers.........
Portable warning equipment, known as "peewee" does give out a klaxon type noise.
