Some of the drawings of old Stafford streets are brilliant, particularly the soup kitchen street
I felt that people should know, as it makes a change from the pseudo-primitive textiles that seem to comprise every second exhibition in there lately - or is it just me?

Those arty textiles seem a pointless exercise to me, who the hell would use them to make anything?
Do i want a pair of keks made of leaves, paper, scratchy hard materials? No.

And while I'm at it cubism, what is that paintings of boxes?

They had a great exhibition of painting's in acrylics a while back now that was real art, all most like photos, but with the sense that the artist had taken a great deal of time and thought to produce the pieces.

You're clearly an educated type, after my own heart. I don't mind three-quarters of it being stuff that I don't like, that's fair enough, but it just seemed to be so similar, to me anyway, although that's probably because I don't like or understand it. It's like the boot sale - it's mostly crap, but there might be a gem - one day.

The best thing that I even saw in there was a full-scale representation of a chicken, made from just chicken wire and larch cones - magnificent - I smuggled a camera in and got a shot of it.

one of my proudest moments was when some of my mums work was exhibited at the shirehall- it was also rather embarrassing as she had used as her inspiration an exploding herpes virus.

nice.

Thats parents for you!
indeed, said work is now hanging in their hallway! lol

although actually, if you didnt know the inspiration you would just think it was just nice silk painting with clever textural effects....unfortunately, i know the truth.

I took my family (visiting from such far flung places as Barcelona and Walsall) the other day - they were very impressed with the exhibition, and Stafford in general.

The current exhibition is about the Fifties - whatever they are.
Bin there seen it, it's the upmarket sanitized version, even a video of royalty visting Stafford, for any one who lived in the fifties it's most disappointing, not a singe bomb site, slum, or dirty child in the place, needed a few pic's of ring worm or scabies a few with rickets and bowlegs to bring a bit of reality to it.

There's a sort of optical illusion exhibition on at the moment - it's quite interesting if you're passing by.
