Bad news for the town

Bad news for the town in my opinion, our 134 year old club is on the brink of collapse, we have 3 weeks to pay £50,000 to Slick Systems, who provided our temporary seating, today the SRFC Board of Directors issued the following statement. This late attempt initiative looks like the only chance we will have, even though the chances of it's success being bleak, but we need as many people to do this as possible.

"Following the open meeting on 26th May between supporters and members of the Board, the directors wish to update all interested parties on the current situation as regards the funds required by 7th July.

The Board have worked very hard on producing a realistic five year forecast to support their application for additional funding from the Bank and were optimistic that the application would be favourably received. However, yesterday the Bank informed the Directors that, despite agreeing that the forecast was achievable, they would not provide additional funding to the Football Club at this point in time because of the Club’s ‘past history’.

The Board are bitterly disappointed at this rejection which comes on top of the poor uptake of commercial initiatives such as the naming of the ground raffle and the very slow uptake of season tickets.

At an emergency Board Meeting last night the directors, following a discussion on the current position with less than three weeks to go before the 7th July deadline, agreed to launch a Stafford Rangers 250 Club, whereby they are asking up to 250 supporters, friends, sponsors, etc. to loan the Club £200 each. The loan will be for an unspecified period which could be anywhere between one month and five years. At the commencement of the playing season a weekly draw will take place whereby every members name/number will be entered and the winner drawn will be repaid their £200. The following week the remaining names/numbers are entered and another member will be repaid their loan. This will continue for 250 weeks until everyone has been repaid their loan with the last member receiving £1000. At anytime a winning member can choose to remain in the hat if they so wish and pass the chance to be repaid to another member.

The Board realises that in the current economic climate £200 is a lot of money to find but would hope that friends or families could club together to find the funds. Because of the impending deadline, the directors have set a date of Friday 3rd July to achieve the 250 target. Anyone who is interested or wishes to know more information please contact the Club office or any director.

PLEASE TAKE THIS PROPOSAL SERIOUSLY – IF THIS LATEST INITIATIVE FAILS THE CONSEQUENCES FOR THE FOOTBALL CLUB COULD BE DIRE.

The Board of Directors

Even if you do not like football I'm sure you can see that this would be a massive blow for the town, the club has a lot of success in the past, and attracted the 6th highest crowds in our league last year, even though we finished near the bottom of the league.

I'll be honest with you I think the town would benefit a lot more from £50k being injected into the local hospital than into the local football ground, sorry.

How many jobs are at stake?.....
Jobs, if the club went under? - well Secretary, Commercial Manager, Manager, Assistant Manager, Physio, Social Club Staff (must be atleast 10 of them, probably more)

Plus our players, only 3 have re-signed, but 6ish have verbally agreed to, so we're looking at about another 10 people who could be would be without a club if the club goes bust.

Fair comment, but thats governmental, I do understand your opinion.

We're a company fighting to survive, and the club provides entertainment for quite a few people in Stafford,

Over the past 5 years it's entertained on average:

08/09: 600+ fans each week
07/08: 850+ fans each week
06/07: 1150+ fans each week
05/06: 900+ fans each week
04/05: 600+ fans each week

I doubt a 'whip round' to save 10 jobs is going to work. Furthermore, at a guess the majority of them will maybe find alternative employment sooner rather than later.....

That'd just pay a consultant for a day to tell them they need £50k to spend on stuff. Whilst it will be sad to see it go, I'm not a fan of football so to me its just another business that is no longer viable. If they have got this far in debt, what is to stop them going further once they get the £50k? Are they now running at a profit, or loss? If a profit, why won't the bank help?

Lol fair point!

Seeing as you have these 600+ a week figures of attendence, are there no local businesses/companies who would be willing to take u some advertising space, would seem worthwhile to me tbh.

I've not actually been into the ground, but I presume there are advertising spaces in there too? If so it might be worthwhile approaching companies as they might not think to approach you, although I don't know how this is dealt with at the club.

Perhaps i'm being naive, but surely the local 'buisness people' they need to attract are aware of the shortcoming of the 'buisness people' running this outfit and therefore wouldn't touch it with the proverbial 'bargepole'....

We've raised £31,000 in 2 days, £19,000 left, 2 weeks remaining. An anonymous person has given us £25,000 loan boosting the numbers from £6,000.

Sorry if its of annoyance, just trying to publicise our plight, I'm a 17 year old lad who just wants a football club to support.

Commercially we do have a lot of sponsorship packages, a lot of businesses are involved with the club, and I spent all last Saturday visiting businesses on behalf of the club trying to make them aware of the packages available. Your right about audience of 600+, it gives us good horizon for attracting sponsorship, and benefits businesses.

Basil, it doesn't just solve 10 jobs, as i've said I mentioned about 20+ jobs in my post, in season it would be more like 35+, it's entertainment to quite a few people in Stafford so it's not just about jobs either. Football clubs can put towns on the maps, whether it be if we ever reached the football league, or whether its a FA Cup draw against Manchester United, who knows what will happen, but many football clubs have put towns on the map.

Tek-monkey, we're operating at a loss, very very few clubs in the world operate at a profit, football is an industry where money is lost especially for the small clubs. No one invests in football expecting to get any money back out of it, all profits are just reinvested elsewhere within clubs.

You forgot to mention all those kids it keeps of the streets in the youth teams Liam (and the criminals it employs in its first team but we can ignore that)

Liam, i am pleased to read your dedication to the cause, i have been watching the developments over the past few days, I am perturbed that an individual is 'loaning' your club a vast amount of money without question. Surely this guy is heading up a venture and the present incumbents should be wary of this......

Thanks basil, I'm surprised too and I really thought we would find no where near £50,000 from fans, but £31,000 in 2 days is great, obviously there is one big loan but also £6000+ raised before this too.

Who knows about the £25,000 we'll see, new blood on the board would not be a bad thing as long as they have our town's football club truly at heart.

A Question available for comment.
Is it true that when asked by the chairman, every single director refused to dig into their pockets to help this plight?

I don't know, I would like to think that isn't true, I think the loaning means that they will have to pay out less each, but as directors you must be prepared to dip into your own pockets, if not your not a custodian, looking after the club, which is your role.

Rangers will be a feature on BBC about us in the next few days, I'll tell you all when, I was asked to feature on it, but I don't think I'd be very good and I can't get up there today so I've said no! Hopefully it might catch the eye of a local millionaire!

TBH this is a very interesting comment, I would like to know the anser. If the directors see the club as a failure, they should be removed immediately.

Yeah, short, but a good plug.
Noticed that Jason Roberts was interviewed, he seems to be one of the most proactive fans that the Rangers have, trying very successfully I believe to reorganise the new Club Strip, the Legends Evening and Club Shop. A new brush sweeps clean as they say.
That short promotion may indeed be successful in going someway into hopefully reaching the target. Then all the Rangers need is some players good enough and keen enough to enable the fans to support another season.
