Bands reforming left right and centre

I have just heard that the verve are getting back together, couple this with The Police, Take That, The Spice Girls and also the happy mondays have made another album as well is 2007 going to be the year of the reformation?

Is the music industry in that much of a state it has to wave the cheque book at its former big sellers in order to survive?

Early Verve - up to the first four EPs is very good. A Northern Soul is excellent too. Gravity Grave and All In the Mind were superb.

Urban Hymns is very overrated. They were better without the 'The' and when he was Mad Richard rather than loved-up Richard. Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space is far better as inspiration from Kate Radley. And Spacemen 3 were better than any of them....

Surprised they've got back together. I heard that Ashcroft and Simon Jones, the bassist, ran into each other in London and Jones twatted him. Money talks; the drummer is teaching kids drums now and has a shop.

God knows what happened to McCabe but he and Ashcroft were never 'mates' in the first place.

There's a void in the pop world at the minute, i.e. hardly any boy and girl bands. So with Take That and Spice Girls being the mid 90's originals, they are bound to make a few quid since they will now have more artistic rights and take a greater % of the profit as they are now calling the shots instead of their label. It's a far cry from sharing a shitty flat together (Spice Girls) to now travelling around on individual jets incase they fall out with each other.

Just think of the carbon print with all that jet fuel and hairspray

A lot of these artists are releasing new material through itunes independently...it's the way forward.

....like the Spice Girls, ex-members of the Deprived and Trash now travel in seperate jet planes, since i played with The Deprived, including supporting 999 and The Suburban Studs (Eddie Zipps anyone?) and with post Trash/Deprived collaboration Viza-V and New Soldiers in the early 80's, (remember Joe French?) ......i've played with a few local outfits since including The Ken Barlow Experience and Red and currently to be seen guitar slingin' for Stafford indie rockers The Late Arrivals. A reunion??........bring it on!!

Aha!! I think our paths have crossed, Stoop, but my private jet is grounded at Seighford. I'm up for a reunion ...... your call !!

hmm..Seighford eh! our paths must have passed before grasshopper. Particularly as i was at the Streetwalkers gig at the Top Of theWorld and several others you mentioned in your other post, including the Edgar Broughton Band...Nutz and Trapeze. I also played there myself in seminal covers band Black Dog in about 1975/ 1976 supporting Maggie Bell.

Also can remember the Vibrators and Generation X and Santana and Status Quo! up at Bingley.

In terms of current combatants i know that Slew is still playing and that Yogi still swings his sticks in anger every now and then. Tate and Firker have since left Stafford's environs but Joe is still to be seen on misty days amongst the mixed borders at Shugborough! for a variety of reasons the original line ups are probably not feasible but there is probably a Stafford contingent to make up a Dennis Racket and the Deprived Boys tribute band!

Is this the same fella who is now head gardener at Shugborough? Named after a Peanuts cartoon? Regular Column in one of those pretentious Staffordshire monthly magazines?

Once remember him asking me, in the Malt & Hops if I would like a fisting! In mitigation, he was highly intoxicated, did say it with a smile on his face, and I am sure he was joking. Bit wasted on me, I was in my late teens, and in my naivity, hadn't got a clue what he was on about, I thought he was offering me a punch on the nose!....

I declined!
