Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
I cannot believe that the contractors would finish the work with incorrect steels, resurface the road, reopen it and then tear it all up again in a few weeks time.

If it does happen, someone from the contractors needs, at minimum, a huge kick up the arse.

From my previous occupation

The excellent corrosion resistance of Stainless Steel Reinforcing Bar (Rebar) eliminates the risk of structural damage due to rust and the need for costly refurbishments that can arise as a result.

  • When compared with the costs associated with the use of carbon steel, stainless steel can reduce total lifetime costs significantly.
The reinforcement I saw put in looked stainless together with lots of large chemical anchors fixing it altogether.

BASWICH CANAL BRIDGE - UPDATE. We have received information directly from the Canal and River Trust. Despite some of the posts recently, we can confirm that the works on the Canal Bridge are now complete. There is no problem with either the concrete or the steels (stainless steel was used to prevent future corrosion). The works have completed some 4 weeks ahead of schedule due to effective planning and favourable weather. The bridge is owned by the Canal & River Trust, it is a historic listed bridge and therefore can not be widened or replaced. No further works on the Canal Bridge are planned.

Enjoying a drop of red.

I didn't read it as criticism of you sj. In fact we should be grateful you posted that up so that those actually in a position to know have had the opportunity to put our minds at rest.

No, no criticism of you at all

Phew, that's a relief. :D ( I was assuming it was an early April fools joke, but given the Severn Trent farce constantly re-doing and re-doing their bodge jobs up here, I wouldn't be surprised at anything anymore)

Must say a big well done to all at Canal and River Trust for cracking on with the job and getting the works done well ahead of schedule.
